Jan. 11th, 2009 09:26 pmWell, "Wihtikow" is edited. It ended up being relatively minor changes in the long run. So, that's good.
Now, though, I have no idea what to do with it. I don't think it's kosher for
hetalia because it's pretty much all about Turtle Island. Talking about Canada and Britain and such, yes, but it's all from his perspective. [He is in my 1812 fic as well, because I couldn't possibly leave him out of that, but his part in that one is minor, so once I have a final edit on 1812, it will be posted to
hetalia] But I haven't found another community where I'd be comfortable posting it. Maybe I'll just let it sit, for now.
I've typed up the Poland/Liet thing, and even though it's short (less than 450 words, and that includes the poem). I think it will need some significant editing. This is because it has turned out to be something close to a prose-poem, so things like line breaks and the use (or non-use) of certain bits of grammar become very important. Guh. But, that's fine. This is poetry. It's easier for me to make bad poetry good than it is for me to make bad prose good.
And after that edit, I shall post it here because
parzi is the best guinea pig ever and
hokuton_punch likes to sing my praises. After the second edit it shall go up on
hetalia, I do declare.
The one about 1812 will have to wait, partly because LONG FIC IS LONG. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if it is something in the neighbourhood of 2,000/2,500 words. It's 3.5 handwritten leafs, anyway ("Wihtikow", at ~1,000 words, was 1.5 handwritten leafs). And it's going to need a shitton of editing.
Aaaaand that's all I have to say about that. I'm a little bit tired, but I still have a lot of work to do. Mmph.
Also, I had to read some Isaac Newton this evening. Guy is seriously difficult to understand. His writing is pretty, but it doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. He would've made a good poet.
Also: I am so full of love right now that it's not even funny. ♥

Date: 2009-01-12 03:59 am (UTC)Also, can't wait to read Poland/Liet. Your sudden industriousness with these fics is putting me to shame. I've actually had a neat idea about Japan's early relations with America that I've just barely entertained, but you're giving me the drive to really do something about it.
Iintriguing tidbit: I'd always known that Japan closed itself off from the Western World for over 200 years, and only traded with it's Eastern brothers and the Dutch, who were confined to an artificial wooden island in Nagasaki harbor. But apparently, during the Napoleonic wars, when the Dutch were understandably busy, America went to Japan instead under the Dutch flag with their permission. So totally secluded Japan could have met the very young and excited newly independent America, a nation who had barely even existed when he [Japan] first cut himself off from the world. And, ominous foreboding...the very country who eventually force Japan to open back up to the world again! So it would probably be a two part thing.

Slipping in a note at the end of 1812 is probably the best bet, because explanation as to who this guy is will be necessary. I couldn't not put him in, considering how much we relied on aid from the Aboriginal population in 1812. I will be posting a revised version of Wihtikow soon (but not today), and locking the old one, and the revision will be the linked-to version when I have the opportunity.
And you might be right about interest from the Canadian portion of the fandom - the population of which, I'm just realizing right now, is rather sizable. A recent post exploded, with all the Canadians coming out of the woodwork, and it's making me laugh so hard. Didn't think there were so many of us.
Ehh, don't worry about my industriousness. Likely, I'll crank out a few more, then be unable to write anything decent for six months. xD Aside from what has already been mentioned, I only have two other ideas - something to do with the hanging of Louis Riel, a Metis leader (and this will again involve Turtle Island, of course), and possibly something else to do with Quebec, maybe the FLQ, though I'm not entirely sure where to do with that. And I have a few ideas for a mini-comic, but considering how difficult drawing is, that probably will not get done.
WARGH YOU MUST WRITE THE JAPAN & AMERICA THING. I haven't read anything you've written in ages. And I WANT TO READ THIS. ... Bah, that's just like America, sneaking in under the Dutch flag. Tsk!

Date: 2009-01-12 04:32 am (UTC)And the whole thing about the Aboriginal aid during the war is pretty interesting. Especially since when I was checking the article on the Battle of New Orleans 'Eastern Woodlands Indians' was listed as an ally to the American troops (along with "Jean Lafitte's pirates", which makes me lol and wtf. The article never explains those pirats.) The alliance makes sense to me, since the American troops in that battle seem to be mostly from Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and those states were all still 'the frontier' and had a complicated, sometimes more friendly than other places relationship with their native populations. It's why pretty much all of us who live here have some native blood in us. So anyway, back to the actual topic from the start of this paragraph....different native populations were helping both sides! Probably due more to friendships with Americans or Canadians than the British. And look at the thanks they got...
OKAY I GUESS I WILL. And America sooooo didn't 'sneak in'. Netherlands asked him to do it! And America is totally not a sneaker, anyway. Sixty years later, when he decided he was serious about making Japan open trade for the world, he showed up with giant black warships and fired warning shots into Edo harbor. My guess is Japan finally gave in because America wouldn't stfu. And when he did it, he did it somewhat on his own terms. Japan was one of the few Eastern nations never to be colonized (I think the only other one was Thailand?), and until the end of WWII, never occupied either.

Date: 2009-01-12 04:39 am (UTC)... Hum. *scratches head* I wonder how the both-sides thing could play out in fic. Don't know if I want to touch that, 's far too complicated.
Anyway, YOU MUST. And... oh, America. Oh dear lawd. xD Shine on, you crazy diamond~
