Jan. 10th, 2009 04:56 pmI wrote another fanfic today~ It's about the War of 1812 and features a very, very angry Canada. Oh my.
... But I still need to edit the other one, so I shan't be typing this one up for a while. Ahhh~
I was wanting to do one about 1812, but hadn't had any specific ideas. However, this one hit me like a brick while I was walking home, and I just had to do it. Yay?
And now, homework time~

Date: 2009-01-11 11:21 pm (UTC)But I just found this video that is, essentially, what I remember most about The War of 1812. We were taught other things in my middle school history class, but this sticks in my mind most because we were allowed to get extra credit for memorizing and performing this song for our teacher (who I now realized was doing it for the lulz).
The Battle of New Orleans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_New_Orleans) is the battle we in TN emphasize, because 1) we kicked ass, 2) our native son Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson was the commander, and 3) there's a catchy banjo picking song about it. The fact that the war was officially already over when it happened? Is totally not important. Right?

Date: 2009-01-11 11:35 pm (UTC)What with the the Americans forgetting we even fought the Canadians and the Canadians (oh forgive me) slightly overemphasizing their own involvement, one wonders what the British POV is on all of this. Probably something akin to "Oh that? Who cares, we were fighting bloody FRANCE."
I guess Napoleon is a little more distracting. :/

Date: 2009-01-11 11:43 pm (UTC)Eheh. Slightly overemphasizing our involvement indeed. *facepalm* There was so much in the war that Canadians actually did, but aside from the whole Laura Secord thing, nobody remembers any of it, and so much emphasis is put on something we didn't even do. Sigh. People are silly.

Date: 2009-01-12 12:14 am (UTC)And I looked it up, and you know what? No one won. Literally. The treaty was "status quo ante bellum" which means, everything will be exactly the same as it was before the war. So in the end nothing was achieved, except Canadians gloating they burned the White House, Americans bragging they could totally fight a war with a major world power and not lose, and England having an annoying distraction while it should have been spending all of it's attention fighting one of the most well known conquerors in modern history. Oh well~

Date: 2009-01-12 12:18 am (UTC)We're just glad y'all didn't win, because then Canada would probably be part of the US, and that would be Very Bad. We love you guys, when we aren't making fun of you, but Seriously.

Date: 2009-01-12 12:26 am (UTC)And we love you guys too. Hetalia is perfect in characterizing the countries as sort of like adopted brothers, because that is totally how we act. (Though as the 'good' and drama-free child IRL I'm amused to be represented by the rebellious dramatic brother in all of this.)

Date: 2009-01-12 12:33 am (UTC)And YES I agree the Hetalia characterization is spot-on. More so than I expected, even, and it makes me very happy~ (Except for certain fan-interpretations of my side, though you already know about that)
And 'struth, you aren't much like the rebellious dramallama. But I bet you have some of it deep inside.;)
(Very, very deep inside)

Like how no matter what, he pretty much always means well. And American inventiveness is pretty great. Maybe he doesn't always have the best ideas or the most elegant ones, but he always has an idea!
