Judo adventures - Class 09
Oct. 4th, 2022 10:02 pmWell, I'm all paid up for October, so it looks like I'm doing this for another month, at the very least!
Odd number of people today. Me, K, J, S, and L. But it's not so bad - I tried actually counting this time, so switching out with K and J worked better than it did before.
I was feeling really exhausted today, and I have no idea why; even took a short nap before supper, but I still didn't feel refreshed, and was all sluggish. Still, it was a good class.
Sensei was VERY happy with how much I improved my backward shrimp drills. I'm glad - I've been practicing it at home every day since last class, incorporating it at the end of my regular exercise routine. So, I'm happy that worked out. ...'Course, today he introduced forward shrimp as well, so I'm going to need to learn that too, and practice it at home. Will have to figure out an optimum practice routine in order to not tire myself out too much on non-class days.
Anyway! Today was more groundwork/nei-waza (note to self: check spelling). Grappling stuff, submissions, etc. Did some triangles, arm bars, scissor sweep - that last one's my favourite so far; easy to remember, and easier for me to do than the others. Also learned some chokes, the specific titles of which I can't recall; there was one particularly nasty one that I think Sensei said was a variation on guillotine, in which you get someone's head under your arm and tighten up. Very fun.
And then! Some groundwork randori. First partnered with K, which was fun - we're both so new at this that we're just kind of uhhh figuring it out, and it's no big deal if we're both confused. Then with S, which was, well. He's much more advanced, so what we actually did was, he guided me through the various techniques, because I was having trouble remembering how to do them properly. Then lastly I was paired with J, which was super fun. With him it's a little easier, because even if my technique sucks or he has me at a disadvantage, I can sometimes manage to brute-force manhandle him into a more advantageous position to me, where I can remember what to do and then follow through, haaa. Just grab that kid and put him right where I need him to go! Brilliant.
So. Very good class, learned a lot (and probably won't remember most of it), making progress... aaaand also I have some new homework. Okay!
