Judo adventures - Class 05
Sep. 20th, 2022 10:14 pmAnother judo class! :V
We had a new person today, K. His kid has been taking lessons for a while, so he thought he'd try it out too. Hopefully he'll stick around! It was convenient that he came, because it meant there were an even number of students today, and we could easily pair off.
We mostly did groundwork today. Holds, and also flipping people over and whatnot. I probably won't remember much of this - I find that I need to watch something several times, then try it many times, while also getting corrected, for it to sink in. But, who knows. :V
Sensei did say that my backwards breakfalls have improved a lot! So, that's good. I had my hair cut on the weekend, and took about a foot of it off - it's just long enough to tie back, now, that's it. I think it was getting in my way before and freaking me out. (Plus, well, falling is scary.) ...My forwards breakfall still sucks, but uh, let's give it time. I've been watching instructional breakfall videos on youtube. It's helpful, I think, to watch how it's done. At home rather than in class is a quieter, slower paced environment - easier to think, and absorb what I'm seeing.
I asked sensei if there's a way to safely practice any portion of that stuff at home and he was like "well, if you put your mattress down on the floor, then yes". Haa, no. Let's not. Best to keep it to class, then.
J accidentally smacked into my face when we were playing tag for warmups. [/facepalm] I hope it won't bruise; I haven't told my family yet that I'm taking judo lessons. It'd be a hell of a thing to have to explain, haaaa. "Oh, I've been secretly taking martial arts lessons, and this happened during class, but not when we were doing any actual judo". Okay!
We're going to be doing more throws next class. I can hardly wait!
