Oh man, Silversun Pickups released a new album last week - Widow's Weeds. Listened to it today, and I'm pleased - it's pretty good! I feel like this was exactly what I needed right now.

I don't follow this altrock band actively, but I do really like their sound, so I'm really happy to hear that they've released something new. Their stuff is energetic in a way that's exactly to my taste, and I like their vocal style.

Of their previous work, the album I'm most familiar with is Swoon (2009) - I listened to one song from that and became a fan instantly. I feel that Swoon is a much louder album than this recent one, with a rougher sound. Widow's Weeds is more subduded and refined. But it isn't a huge stylistic departure - a lot of the stuff I like about that work is present in this one.

It's hard to pick a favourite track from this, though "Neon Wounds" is a good bet.

Now, I gave this album a listen via HooplaDigital, but the official audio for all the tracks is up on youtube. Yay! Might not be available in all areas, though. And it doesn't look like the album is on Bandcamp yet, but since it was only released last week I still have hope it'll show up there eventually.
