On Nov 5th it was so cold at work that I couldn't concentrate. My feet felt like ice blocks. The 6th was better, but still cold. Winter is... here.

I pulled my fur hat out of storage. It looks all right, but it's shedding a bit. I kind of want a new one - aside from the shedding issue, it's rabbit fur, and I find that doesn't take well to damp snow. Beaver would be better. And... whatever my next hat ends up being, this time, I'll get something made in Canada. I mean, I prefer to buy Canadian-made winter products anyway, but there are some things I'm more particular about than others.

I kind of want to buy some mukluks, too. I don't expect that the heat in my office will be fixed any time soon; the main company is dragging its feet with getting maintenance to come in there and fix the furnace (not to mention the electrical problems). So a nice pair of mukluks might help stop my toes from freezing. :T Manitoubah makes such gorgeous ones but I will look locally first... My feet are such a weird size, I don't like buying shoes unless I can try them on first... especially when it's something so expensive.

I recently finished reading John Gardner's Grendel. Basically, Beowulf from Grendel's point of view. It's... not as good as I had hoped that it would be. The premise sounds like something that would be very relevant to my interests, but somehow it just falls flat for me. I think it's because Grendel's internal narrative doesn't grab me. I'm not sure why. This isn't the first thing I've come across that tried to develop Grendel more; there is Beowulf and Grendel, which I did like. Though I think I might have watched that film before reading Beowulf. Anyway, I found Grendel more sympathetic in that film than in this novel - or at least, from what I remember. Though I suppose the novel isn't attempting to make him a sympathetic character, rather just... more developed. But it still falls flat. Oh, except for the part where Grendel visits the Dragon! Grendel is meh as a character, but the Dragon... Gardner did a good job at making him interesting.

Have to work extra time today. Not looking forward to it. :T
