yuuagoWent to a kickboxing class this evening! It was a free inclusive class offered as a Pride Month event.
It was a small group - just me and two women. But that's fine, as I prefer small classes. One of them, I'd met briefly at the Pride YMM coffee event; the other I hadn't met before. Very friendly people; it was nice to have a chat with them before the class.
The class itself - it was at the well-established MMA dojo downtown. I've never been down there, but they've been around for years, and I've been kind of curious about their setup. Anyway - the instructor was very patient and friendly, which is good because I had no idea what I was getting into, lol.
Punching and kicking things is very cathartic! Who'da thunk. ;V NGL though, the kicking part of kickboxing is really hard - of course, since it's only one class, of course I'd find it tricky, but man my balance sucks. Getting the right footing and technique is challenging. Punching, though, thaaat's very fun. One, two, hook! Whew!
According to instructor I push myself too hard and spend too much energy all at once. Which is exactly the same thing that my sensei says. [/facepalm] Gonna have to work on that.
It was super fun. I prefer judo, but I will not lie, this was extremely satisfying (and was quite an extreme workout, whew). Might look into a class or two in the future, depending on like... scheduling and stuff. And it was nice to talk with those two gals - on the one hand, it would have been cool if more people had come, but on the other, I do much better with small groups, sooo yeah. One of them (argh, I forget her name) will be at one of the other things that I plan to go to this month, so that'll be nice!
Really glad that I decided to go! (I'm going to be so tired at judo tomorrow, though. pffff)
