Ahhhh, another ESC final! Thoughts and notes under the cut.
Opening: Kalush Orchestra! Ahh their performance was wonderful, I loved it. Very impressive, very stylish.
Other stuff: Luxembourg is coming back next year? Hmm! That's pretty cool.
Austria - I like this one a lot better than the semis; either it has better singing, better sound mixing, or the song just grew on me. Anyway, it's fun!
Portugal - I still hate the costuming, my god. But the song and performance is energetic and fun!
Switzerland - I find myself liking this the more that I hear it. Idunno, man.
Poland - Still think this one is terrible.
Serbia - Man, I love the shoes the singer is wearing. ...Anyway, the song and the performance are kind of weird, but I still find myself really enjoying it.
France - Whew! I love this! Shades of "Voila", but doing lots of its own thing of course. Ah, I really enjoy her voice. :V
Cyprus - Not bad, not amazing - this one just doesn't stand out much. Song-wise, I expect I'll like the studio version a lot, but in terms of like... Eurovision act, I just don't care.
Spain - This is like something I'd listen to outside of ESC. It's beautiful; not sure how I feel about it as an ESC performance, though. I can't really see it doing well vote-wise, but who knows!
Sweden - I think I'd like the costuming better if it wasn't so close to flesh-coloured. As for the song, well, it's no "Euphoria". I keep seeing people that this is a favourite to win, but I really can't see it!
Albania - Whoo, Balkan ballad! Love the song, love the costume, and wow the main vocalist is beautiful and her lipstick is on point. I can't see it winning, but I personally like this a lot.
Italy - The singer is handsome, but the song doesn't interest me. However, I expect I'll find it very listenable later.
Estonia - Feeling kind of lukewarm about this one. The song's just okay, and the piano isn't even on fire!
Finland - This song is so very unhinged. I don't even like it as a song, but I love it as a performance, it's just so fun!
Czechia - Still like the song, still dislike the costuming, hope it places high despite my caveats. :V
Australia - Oh, his is fun. Enjoying the light show. Stylistically, it's my thing - I can see myself listening to this later.
Belgium - Still one of my top fives. Really love this one. It's energetic! Not sure about that dude's pink pants though....
Armenia - Ehhh. The singer is beautiful, but I don't like the song. Or the costuming. Or the stagin. Or - you get the idea.
Moldova - HELL YEAH FOREST RAVE! Okay, we're done, douze points to Moldova!
Ukraine - Costuming-wise, I like the bling on his shirt, it looks really cool. The song's okay; I think I'll like it better later.
Norway - Gosh, this cheese. It's fun cheese, though! Fun costuming, fun act, song's pure cheddar.
Germany - Man, my eyes went WIDE when the metal scream came in right at the beginning ha. Wow, this act is bonkers. The song, the costuming, it's nuts! Looks like Germany sent a pretty good one this year. (Also, at the end - I'm pretty sure that was 'Thank you' in Ukrainian that he said? Nice. <3 )
Lithuania - I have no idea why I enjoy this one as much as I do. But I do, so...!
Israel - I still hate this song. Bleh. I really like the singer's pants, though.
Slovenia - I love the singer's shirt. But with those pants? Buddy... Anyway, I still love this song. It feels kind of messy, but whatever, I'm digging it.
Croatia - OK, so I looked up the lyrics, and now it makes a bit more sense to me. ANYWAY... song-wise, not my thing, but wow, what a performance! They did a great job, but I can't see them getting a lot of points. Then again, it's hard to tell, considering the weird/crack factor.
United Kingdom - So. UK doesn't want to host again, eh. ...Maybe the studio version is better.
Personal top 5: Moldova, France, Belgium, Germany, Croatia. Not in any particular order. Finland comes verrry close, but doesn't make it because I don't like their song so much as the act as a whole.
Must admit, that bit with the interval songbook and "You'll Never Walk Alone" got me a bit misty-eyed. IDK. I'm a softie.
This year, international fans could vote! ...But because I haven't received my new credit card, I couldn't vote this year. [/facepalm] Oh well. Hopefully they'll keep this new development, so I'll be able to vote next year.
Jury thoughts: WHY DO THESE FUCKERS KEEP VOTING FOR SWEDEN, ARGH. [/exasperated] The song was just Okay.
Audience vote thoughts: Only 15 points from audience for Germany? Disappointing! Also, Moldova didn't do as well with the audience as expected, alas. Also, I didn't expect Norway to do so well - but then again, it was a pretty fun entry. Really surprised that Austria did so poorly (I wonder if people are saving their points for Finland?!)
...And then Sweden won.
I'm kind of disappointed. Partly because I found Sweden's entry just OK; partly because one of my mates was planning to go to Finland to see ESC in person if they won, so I'd been really hoping they'd get to do that. And also I preferred Finland's act.
Ahhhh well. It was still a fun Eurovision! Congrats to Loreen. I wonder which city will host ESC next year?
