Decided on a date range for the Norway trip. Late August/early September. That's when it'll be most convenient for the friend that I'm visiting. She gets her schedule for the entire year all at once, so it's easy to see which dates she'll be available for me to visit. Having a more narrow range of what time to look at is going to make things much easier.

Time to start looking things up in more detail... ;)

It would be very nice if people who don't know anything about Norway or travelling to northern Europe would stop trying to tell me how to plan my trip there, though. (There are some very nosy people in my life, let's just say.)

I hope it is amazing and beautiful! And I hope people stop the... Nor-splaining.

I hope you have fun there and get to practice your Norwegian skills! It was beautiful in winter, but it must be gorgeous (and a lot less slippery) when it's warmer.

The main thing would've been 'some streets in Oslo will accumulate several inches of ice in winter, pack shoes accordingly', but I doubt that will be as much of a problem in August/September.

I also remember it being surprisingly difficult to find a place to buy bus tickets near where we were staying and we had to walk for a bit from one museum we visited to buy tickets back (we didn't have cash, so we were pretty sure we couldn't pay on the bus), so we could have planned better there. We didn't end up using the bus enough to make a multi-day pass worth it, since it was pleasant and easy to walk around once we got away from the ice, and if you go through museums slow enough, the Oslo Pass didn't seem worth it either. The train and bus weren't difficult to use, though.

Otherwise, I found it a pretty easy place to travel even without knowing the language :)
