I love that even after 30-odd years of being trapped far away, Mattias still asks after Halima, hoping that she's happy. And as for Halima, I like to think that the reason she was unattached was because she never found anyone that she liked quite as much as she liked Mattias. ;) It's clear that at the end they've either rekindled their romance or at least are going in that direction, but since we only get a glimpse of that, I want so much more!
Halima is hard to find picture references for, but she's in this gif - she's the lady that Mattias is handing the picture to.
While looking for more details, I found out that Lt. Mattias's full name is supposed to be Destin Mattias (from here). As far as I remember, this wasn't mentioned in the movie.

-Experimenting with photography; I found Mattias's surprise at this new technology really funny. Maybe he'd develop a fondness for it - either having his picture taken, or learning how to do it himself, on his downtime? Perhaps Halima would want their pictures taken together whenever possible, because they spent so much time apart?
-Halima takes Mattias on a series of dates around Arendelle, showing him all of the things that have changed while he was away (and some things that stayed the same, too).
-Gestures of affection; flowers, sweets, love letters, everything! Mattias seems like a real romantic, and I bet he'd want to shower Halima with love at every opportunity.
-First meeting when Mattias returns to Arendelle: what was that like? How did that go? Imagine them seeing each other for the first time in over thirty years!

-Precanon courtship: back before the events that led to Mattias being trapped, it's clear that he and Halima knew and liked each other. I'd love to see some of their early relationship. :)

These two are a match made inheaven hell someplace. Though their canon interaction is brief, it made me go "You know what, this interests me". They're both so ridiculous, and so horrible, and so... upper management-y? I especially love humour when applied to this pair, so if you want to draw something silly, have at it. (Though a serious take on them could also be rather touching!)
I have a preference for Earth settings with these two, because it's sort-of neutral territory that doesn't belong to either of them... but also because Beelz's fly hat is super adorable.
Art ideas
- Meeting on Earth in a similar way to how Aziraphale and Crowley do it. Their canon scene made me feel like it hasn't been all that long since their last in-person conversation.
- Having to reluctantly cooperate on a Project or something Because Of Reasons. (Reasons related to the Great Plan? Ineffable reasons? Or SOMEBODY fucked something up and fixing it requires more than the regular level of intervention.)

For historical settings, I'm a fan of "union under one crown = marriage" trope, so if you want to run with that, you're very welcome to. I really enjoy the thought of them trying to have a functional partnership with each other, with varying degrees of success, and developing personal feelings through that over the years. Even just one scene where this is part of their established background would be great.
For modern settings, I generally imagine that it would have taken them quite a while to form a personal romantic relationship again; not until well into the second half of the 20th century. They needed time away from each other. So now, their relationship would feel familiar, but also new - and maybe they'd enjoy retreading those old paths and seeing what new things they can discover about one another.

-Exchange of love letters, or regular letters where the affection is clear if you read between the lines.

I like both modern and historical settings for these two. Historically, Denmark and Netherlands were allies, so of course Norway would have been included in that.

The full-rigged ship answered: "Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy." The Independence replied: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world."

The ships ship themselves! :D All I could picture when reading that was a big, brawny butch lady getting totally flustered and losing her cool at the sight of an elegant woman in white. Lots of blushing, please! Maybe some hand-kissing? :D It would also be fun to really play up the size difference, since the Independence is an aircraft carrier.

What a tragic duo. A pair of adventurers, setting off into the artcic, never to be seen again until modern day.
These two were lovely ships, but they were not delicate lasses. They were both bomb vessels, designed to withstand cannons - or, theoretically, ice. Erebus had already braved the Antarctic, and Terror began her life as a warship. At the beginning of their journey, they would have been muscular and sturdy. Toward the end... well. Not so much.

I love the image of them setting out into the unknown together, but I also really enjoy the tragic image of them frozen into the ice and embracing one another toward the end, waiting for a spring that will not come for them.

The Constitution is the oldest naval vessel still afloat. She's getting on in years, but still impressive - just look at her. Beautiful!
On her 200th birthday, the Constitution sailed under her own power, escorted by destroyer USS Ramage and frigate USS Halyburton. You can see a picture of them together here.

I would love it if it were clear that human!Constitution is an ex-warrior; elegant but tough, and maybe even with some scarring. Her cannons haven't been fired in a very long time, but in her youth she fought some impressive battles.

If you're looking to do a background and want to get really meta, placing our ships on the deck of one of the literal ships would be a hoot. Also, since boats are usually referred to as "she", I'm looking for femslash. :)
STS Amerigo Vespucci/USS Independence

The story behind this pairing goes as follows:
While sailing the Mediterranean Sea in 1962, the American aircraft carrier USS Independence flashed the Amerigo Vespucci with the light signal asking: "Who are you?" The full-rigged ship answered: "Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy." The Independence replied: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world."
The story is usually accompanied by this photograph.

The ships ship themselves! :D All I could picture when reading that was a big, brawny butch lady getting totally flustered and losing her cool at the sight of an elegant woman in white. Lots of blushing, please! Maybe some hand-kissing? :D It would also be fun to really play up the size difference, since the Independence is an aircraft carrier.
HMS Erebus/HMS Terror

What a tragic duo. A pair of adventurers, setting off into the artcic, never to be seen again until modern day.
These two were lovely ships, but they were not delicate lasses. They were both bomb vessels, designed to withstand cannons - or, theoretically, ice. Erebus had already braved the Antarctic, and Terror began her life as a warship. At the beginning of their journey, they would have been muscular and sturdy. Toward the end... well. Not so much.

I love the image of them setting out into the unknown together, but I also really enjoy the tragic image of them frozen into the ice and embracing one another toward the end, waiting for a spring that will not come for them.
USS Constitution/USS Halyburton/USS Ramage

The Constitution is the oldest naval vessel still afloat. She's getting on in years, but still impressive - just look at her. Beautiful!
On her 200th birthday, the Constitution sailed under her own power, escorted by destroyer USS Ramage and frigate USS Halyburton. You can see a picture of them together here.
Art ideas
What comes to mind is a grand older lady and her two muscular, strong, loyal and adoring female bodyguards, haha. Maybe some queen/knights parallels, too! (Hand-kissing, kneeling, that sort of thing? :D )
I would love it if it were clear that human!Constitution is an ex-warrior; elegant but tough, and maybe even with some scarring. Her cannons haven't been fired in a very long time, but in her youth she fought some impressive battles.
