Spent the last four days doing Real Life Things! Had to go down south for a wedding. It's a pretty damn long trip from Fort Mac to Calgary, so we overnighted at my parents' cabin in Athabasca part of the way.

This was my first time going out to the cabin. It's really nice! Not going to lie, I was really impressed by all of the little cabinets for storage and such. (And the bathroom there is nicer than the one we have at home, wow.) It's a very cozy little place, with a nice view of the lake. I'd probably enjoy it very much if I were there on my own.

But it did confirm some of my suspicions. The reason I'd never wanted to go out there before is because the idea of being stuck around people that I don't have a good relationship with, in a very isolated space where I can't get away from them, sounds like a recipe for disaster. And it is pretty damn far from town; there's no way I could walk into Athabasca proper (not that there's much in Athabasca anyway). This time was fine; overnights on the way to somewhere else is okay. But anything else... well. If I'm going to travel, then it needs to be so that I can do something more fun than staying at home.

...Also, I found it a bit hard to sleep, because the property out there has been broken into at least twice, so every single sound in the night kind of spooked me a little. But, oh well. ;p

And then... road trip. Jesus fuck, do I ever hate roadtrips. This is something I really have not missed at all. Even from Athabasca, it's WAY too far to Calgary, ugh. I still feel incredibly stiff from all that time spent in the car.

As for the wedding - it was lovely. I haven't seen my cousin in 10 years, and I haven't been to a wedding in about 25 years, so I didn't really know what to expect. But it went well, everything was really nice, and it was great to see everybody.

I was worried that my photos wouldn't turn out. Turns out I didn't need to be so concerned. I took about 200, and maybe 60 of them were decent (ish). That's a pretty good rate for me.

They didn't allow photographs during the ceremony, though. I was a little surprised by that. I don't know if this is typical? The last time I was at a wedding, I was too young to care about these things. ;)

Didn't think I'd get a chance to talk to my cousin, but I did. We had a nice little talk. I... really don't know her all that well; I mean, when I think about her, all I remember is a kid around eight years old who loved The Lion King (didn't we all?). So this entire weekend has been kind of a weird feeling. The guy she married seems really nice, though!

I was pretty much ready to leave after one hour of the reception, but of course we had to stay until much later... Still, I think I made a very good attempt at appearing to be a Normal Human Being for that period of time. ;p

While I'm glad it all went well, and I'm very happy for my cousin, all this did confirm that I really don't want to have a wedding of my own, in the unlikely event I find someone that I can tolerate for more than five minutes.
