Reading Wednesday

yuuagoFinished reading: Thick as Thieves by Megan Whalen Turner. Ahhhh I loved it! And finally I have context for certain things that I saw around and didn't really get before. Oh boy. (Also, I ship it.) Since this is the last available novel in the series (for now), I'll have to go investigating fanwork when I have more time. ...Whenever that will be.
Currently reading: Zuleikha by Guzel Yakhina, translated by Lisa C Hayden. Set some time after the Russian revolution, about a Tatar woman exiled to Siberia. Can't recall which decade it's set in, but anyway - I'm about 1/5th in and finding it very engrossing so far; hard to put down.
Also reading: Empire of the Deep: The Rise and Fall of the British Navy by Ben Wilson. This one is bed-time reading that I'm going to be picking at off and on, so I expect it'll take me a while to get through it - but as for the book itself, it's very interesting and readable. It covers a very wide period - from 800s to modern day - and devotes more time than typical to the middle ages, which I appreciate. This book either is your thing or isn't. I sure do love reading about naval history, so....
Reading next: A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II by Sonia Purnell. Biography of Virginia Hall*, the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines (according to the inside flap, anyway). I'm usually not interested in reading about the USA/Americans during this period, but this caught my eye on the shelf, so why not.
Also reading next: The library finally received the volume of Han Shan's poetry that I asked them to order - The Collected Songs of Cold Mountain - but it isn't available yet. Which is fine; by the time I'm finished with the books listed above, I'll be able to take it out. Looking forward to this one.
