If the SAD lamp is too expensive, you might look into getting a normal lamp and putting a full-spectrum bulb in it. One of my former housemates did that and it seemed to help her. I'm not looking forward to the oncoming months of darkness either, but I'm lucky enough to work in a building with large windows so at least I get what little sun there is.
