Anyway, the spells: In addition to the Kalevala, Lönnrot collected/edited a book of "Ancient Spells of the Finnish People" (loose translation of the title). And it's basically what it says on the tin: old spells for various purposes (like preventing against frost, or driving away rain). I didn't know this book existed until my pal Rabbit bought it in Finnish, and so I was drooling over it because it just sounds so cool, but I didn't think there would be an English translation of it. AND THEN I was informed that an English translation exists* and... it's on its way to me now. :)
