All riiiight. So, now that I've managed to hammer down the details of the fanwork challenge, I'm ready to start actually doing things to get ready for it. The comm's created, at least - for reference, it's
nordipalooza (I have Nate and Nunuut to thank for the name, hah) - but I don't have anything actually on it yet - I'll have to take care of that after work. It shouldn't take too much time to get everything organized, and with luck, I'll be able to get everything ready to go live on the night of the 29th. Right now, joining is open, but posting access is closed (I'll open it up after I get everything settled).
I'M SO EXCITED, YOU GUYS.
Other than that, nothing exciting going on in my life right now, really. Work is the usual. Family life is the usual. My brother left on a two-week vacation to Cuba this morning, and I'm rather envious. Not that I want to go to Cuba particularly - warm climates aren't to my taste - but it'd be nice to travel somewhere. After that trip in the autumn, I kind of acquired a taste for it.
I've actually recently been thinking that a trip to Quebec might be nice. Recently read a novel set there (from Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series) and it reminded me of that time I went there when I was 13. The trip was not the best, but I do have some fond memories of it. And then recently Moona talked about going to Canada and mentioned flights to Montreal. I remember much more about Quebec City than Montreal, and I think I did prefer Quebec City at the time, but who knows....
And then again, maybe Halifax would be nice, if I ended up travelling on my own. Sure, I've been there before - I've been there plenty of times - but there are a million things I miss about Nova Scotia. Ach, I don't know. It's all far off, anyway. It's a little bit early in the year to be thinking about travelling. (But perhaps it wouldn't hurt to look into a few things... and possibly try to brush up on my French.)
Aside from that, I've recently started re-reading the Age of Bronze series, and it's been reminding me just how much I love Classical studies and dusty old epic literature. I really should re-read The Iliad one of these days; it's been a couple of years. As for Age of Bronze itself, I used to find the artwork a tad off-putting (probably just because it isn't the sort of thing that I'm used to seeing in the graphic novels I read) but it has definitely grown on me. It's pretty cool how you can see that the artist clearly takes inspiration from ancient art - they've really done their research.
