I had intended to go to the school today for English department coffee time, but I woke up quite late and in the end decided not to. To be honest I'm in no mood to be social today; I'm rather grumpy, and I know what when I am in such a mood it is best to avoid being around people.

I did get some personal things done, though; finished editing a fic, at least. One down, four to go! Argh, backlog, how I hate it. Maybe I'll try working on another tomorrow. Don't know. Oh, and I also updated the Baltic index. Sigh. That's always... blah. But if I keep on top of it, it shouldn't end up as such a chore. Anyway, aside from that, I finally got around to reading the two most certain instalments of a long fic that has been sitting on my 'to-read' list for ages. Aaa. I feel strange leaving it go so long, but really, I did want to wait for the right moment, so I could savour it.

I have half a mind to go out shopping tomorrow to see what the places have out for their Halloween stuff, but it's a bit early yet, I think. Then again, never know. It seems places start putting out their stuff earlier and earlier. Not that I complain, because I love Halloween stuff, especially decorations with spiders and skeletons and things... I'm a total dork - I tend to keep that sort of thing up year-round. But when I had to move away from Wolfville, I wasn't able to take most of my decorations with me. Right now I just have some spiders and leaves on my mantle, saaa.

But when I think of it, what I really want is for places to start putting their boxes of Christmas cards out. I'm definitely sending out cards this year, as I usually do, and this year a lot of them will be going overseas so I want to get them out early, maybe mid-November I guess. So in order to do that, I need to get the cards early, because I am both busy and lazy and it takes me forever to do anything.

Now on a completely unrelated note, ahhhh, I love my cologne. A few weeks ago I bought some new stuff because there was a place downtown that sells Demeter cologne (my favourite). I've been using the "Leather" one a lot. It smells like... leather. That's the thing about Demeter - their stuff actually smells like what it says on the label. This one is a good every-day, because it isn't too heavy or too weird and it's a perfectly ordinary smell, nothing exotic. It's a very masculine scent too, which is another thing I like about it. So anyway, I'm pretty happy, though I must make a note to avoid that store in the future. They only sell the 1 oz. bottles, and it's pretty expensive (though not as much as some other brands).

It's starting to get dark and cold now. The sun is about half-set around 7 PM, and when I went running tonight it was chilly. Recently, it has been so cold in my house that I can't go around barefoot any more, and even if I wear socks sometimes it's still too chilly and I have to wear moccasins. Very annoying. Well, I don't mind it being cold indoors too much, but outside it's a problem. I'm probably going to have to change my running time soon. I get back from school in the early afternoon, so I guess I could do it then... but sigh, changing my schedule is going to be annoying. Ah, well. :|

I know, eh? Best get these things done early! I'll probably be taking addresses halfway through October, and then I hope to get all the overseas cards out by Nov 11th. But we'll see.

Ah, but I like Halloween stuff and never had goth days! Er, mostly because I never thought I looked good in the style and was too lazy to put forth the effort. I suppose that makes me nearly guilty. Nearly. *snorts* Well, now, if you end up with a Christmas package that has spiders instead of packing paper you can only blame yourself. That sure is a strange family tradition though. Strange, but neat. Wonder where something like that would have originated from.

adoiaodi. I have so many leather bands I like wearing around my wrist (I got one with a red glass radioactive emblem a few weeks ago~). I'm a little sad the scent has worn out of most of them. ;~; I have to shamefully admit my obsession stems from The Mummy.

*shoves lovingly?* I tend not to tell people I am going to fill things for this very reason, unless I need to ask them for clarification on some matter. I don't want them to think it will be filled quickly, only to have it take months. And yeahhh I guess I do tackle a lot of things at the same time - but not gonna lie, right now the reason I've been doing so many short things is because I'm stalled on Union again, else I'd be working on that.

Goth style takes TOO MUCH EFFORT. Sigh. The clothes are no good for every day and the makeup is just, like, geeeze 20 minutes in front of the bathroom mirror. I can't be assed to do that any more.
And YAY SPIDERS. Can't stand real ones, but fake ones are awesome.
IIRC, the spider decoration bit is some German thing, taking after some old story about spiders making webs in the christmas tree and the webs turning into silver or something.... IDUNNO. Maybe not. That relative is a weird one, tending toward the goth side. She has all these little witch dolls hanging up in her kitchen.

No good for every day is right! I don't understand how some of the kids out here still go around in black long sleeves and pants in the middle of summer. Whaaaat. You kids are going to pass out from heat exhaustion! (Maybe this is why they lurk IN the mall as opposed to neighborhood lurking or at parks.)

Buuuh. I can't even be assed to spend 10 minutes in front of the mirror. Never really could. I went through a phase where I tried to get up and do my hair pretty like all the popular kids, but inevitably when my hair would NOT hold the style I gave up. I can't always be bothered to put makeup on even when I want to dress nice. I love some of the colors that are available as eyeshadows, but they're usually in the super expensive brands or there's almost no occasion I could wear them except special events or holidays. Sigh.

Alas, I can not send you real ones to torment you! I'm sure Customs would have some kind of fit. You're sending this guy what!? There would also be the problem of me catching them in the first place. Ickickick. You're absolutely safe from me sending you real spiders. Intentionally.

German? Hrm. Curiouser and curiouser. Haven't heard that one. Admittedly I don't think we have many German traditions surviving in the family despite how recently immigrated that side of the family is. That's some cute imagery though! Figuratively, silver spider web tinsel sounds pretty awesome. If that were real I would get rather in a fright that there were spiders lurking around the tree and in the house, watching you with their multitude of eyes. *shudder* I would look this up were I not lazy. :| I don't take THAT long. Just... long. As for the Union, the problem is that right now I have this big empty space labelled "here there be plot". I kind of... er... forgot what I was going to do next. So what I need to do is go through my research materials, figure out what was happening, figure out how to abstract it, then get back on track. But I've been kind of busy, so I haven't been doing that.

Yeah, I don't know how people can go around wearing the long sleeves etc when it's so hot out. And me, I tend toward the elegant style rather than more street-style, so most of my goth clothes look too formal for every day. People tend to ask me why I'm dressed up. Sigh.

I'm rather glad that you cannot send me real spiders because I would hate you forever if you did.

What I mean by witch dolls is that she has all these little witches hanging around in her kitchen. Most of them are small. I think they're called kitchen witches or something like that and apparently it's some wiccan thing, but I dunno.

Gaaaaah I love Halloween. I have pumpkin garland to put up in my room here. And maybe if I can find some friends to do stuff with I could dress up. I hope so. My inner theatre geek always has the compulsion to buy costumes and make up but then I have nothing to do with it.

Usually I end up going to the department's halloween party. Most people dress in costume, and sometimes the profs show up, and it's pretty cool.

When I was in undergrad, the school did "trick or eat" which is basically dressing up and going around the city in the late afternoon, door-to-door, to collect food bank donations. They do it here as well but I have not gone. Maybe there's something like that in your area?

Maybe you don't take that long with actual fills, but poor Union ain't gonna see its end until such an occasion. Ack. That was mean. If you've just been busy, at least that's not so horrible as trying to sit down and write it but having it come out like poo. But, oh free time, where are you when you're needed.

I lovelovelove the elegant style. The street clothes end up usually looking trashy and hoodlum-like. I look trashy enough without spending great efforts and money, thankyouverymuch. While it's nice society isn't so high strung as to require proper dressing up everyday anymore, I kinda miss the more formal fashion. As you said, if you do wear something nice people start getting nosy and want to know why. Gods forbid you just wanted to wear something pretty. :| I dunno. Clearly we'll just have to host our own tea party or go on a fancy picnic one day just to have an excuse for such frivolities (I love this tag, btw, <3)

Word on street-style looking trashy. I can't stand that sort of thing, man. Give me lace and velvet over spikes and ripped stuff any day. Sigh, this is why I like to go to the stage theatre etc, because dressing up isn't out of place; on the other hand, hardly anyone dresses nicely for even that, so I still feel wayyy overdressed.

I totally would. OH REALLY. I am curious.

Anyway, yes, that style of witches, with capes and pointy hats, though they're usually more creative than the black. My favourite one was wearing blue with silver star patterns all over.

By the way, .ci = Cote d'Ivoire. They speak French there (obvs)

I'm probably going to go as Dr. Jekyll again. I've gone as him for like three years in a row, but well, it's an easy costume because I pretty much have all the clothes (remnants from my goth days). Just need to do up my makeup so that I look sickly, and then we're good.
