HAH. I always type up my tl;dr comments in notepad, with the window set alongside the comment thread in Firefox, so that I can check what I'm replying to easily. Totally ace.

Real-life people... well, I guess that's true. Maybe I'm just out of touch. Nowadays I don't really talk to anyone except for my colleagues from the university, and even though we're all students I do try to keep myself at a professional distance. Now that I think of it, maybe that's just me being stuffy, but it seems the mature thing to do.

High school love is BLARRRRGH NONSENSE and that's all I have to say on the matter. However, I do feel better when I realize that many of the people at the meme are somewhat older. There are still several people who are quite young, mind, but on the whole they're at least somewhat mature... most of the time. Even so, it can be kind of freaky at times, like if I realize I just spent an hour talking about smut with a 15-year-old (fortunately this doesn't happen often)

Didn't the strip show Finland willingly going away with Sweden?

I think you're a bit mixed up here. When I said he wouldn't have gone willingly, I was talking about the conquering of Finland by Sweden in the 13th century. The strip you're talking about is about when Sweden (and Finland, which was part of Sweden's territory) broke away from the Kalmar Union in the 15th(?) century. Different periods. But anyway, you're right, that's probably why people write them the way they do, though of course in history Finland didn't have much choice in the matter.

As for books, you're completely right. It's very difficult to find books on any of the Nordic countries (the Baltic countries too), and I've resorted to scouring the used book stores and Amazon. Since I have an interest in this outside of Hetalia, I don't feel too bad about it. Anyway, so far I have one book on Sweden and one book on Finland. I haven't gotten very far into the Finland book due to lacking the time to sit down and read, but it does go into some of the problems that were experienced (as far as we know about them, anyway - I'm still reading about the medieval period right now; not many records for that time). Unfortunately, it's just not enough.

The problem with good history books is that many of them are horrendously expensive. I've looked through my university library, but they don't have much either. It figures. Argh, if only I wanted to know about Ukraine - we have tons of stuff on Ukraine! (of course, because this is Saskatchewan). But nothing on the Nordic countries, really.
