yuuagoSo. Today was kind of failtastic. I really, really need to learn not to rest in my bed during the day. I always fall asleep. It doesn't matter if I just had a big cup of coffee or something like that; I always fall asleep. Usually I wake up between three and four hours later. Ugh.
The Roastery wasn't busy today, which was extremely weird. Normally it's busier on Fridays than the usual. Not sure what's going on here. Oh, well. When I was stepping outside to walk there, I ran into the woman who lives in the apartment next to mine. Giselle, I believe her name is. I asked her if she had any news on the boiler. She said that she spoke with the people in charge and we should have heat by Monday.

For those who're keeping track, that's what they said last week. As of tomorrow, we'll have gone a month without heat. We're all extremely unimpressed. We've spoken with the people in charge, but Giselle is sceptical as to whether they'll do anything if we only do it over the phone. So, she said, she's going to draft out a letter and get everyone in the apartment building to sign it. Because honestly, this is ridiculous. They should be paying our electric, considering heat is supposed to be included in our rent. :|
Anyway.
I have a huge-ass stack of essays on Oryx and Crake to mark. I'm not particularly looking forward to it. On the other hand, the students did like this novel, so who knows. Maybe this batch will be better than the last one. I do hope so, 'cause otherwise I think I might SCREAM. Seriously, you guys. You guys, seriously.
In other news, I'm almost finished reading The Road. Holy fuck, is it ever bleak and depressing. I know I said that in my previous entry, but I'll say it again. Good, but depressing. As for Tristram Shandy, I haven't read any further, but this weekend I'm going to have to try to choke it down, I guess.
The Big Long Eesti Fic is going pretty well. I came up with a System while I was at the Roasty. I kind of wish I had thought about it sooner. Read ~10 pages, write a paragraph. Read another ~10 pages, write another paragraph. Eventually I managed to get a whole page and a half written. That brings it up to 5.5 now.
Of course, in the case of this particular fic, it's 5.5 pages of sweetness and light. Pure fluff. Though, there's a bit of angst coming up, but it'll be brief. But you know, sweetness is good. I've written so much angst and sad fic recently that I think it's time for something like this.
I'm really glad I got through so much of it tonight though, because one of the scenes I've been itching to write is coming up next. I just need to write the angst scene, and then this one. Yes! I'm so excited, it's kind of ridiculous. (And no, this scene is not smut. xD)
I hope the System works as well when I'm reading Tristram Shandy as it did when I was reading The Road. Maybe it'll make the novel more palatable. Either way I really need to get this fic done, because it's soooo overdue - not to mention, after this one, I get to start the epic Nordics VS Baltics showdown, which I'm just plain eager to write now. So. MUST GET IT DONE YAY.
