Oct. 8th, 2023 08:58 amI had mentioned to Tik how I was disappointed that my local library discontinued their Little Library program. I'd really loved looking through the book boxes, trading things - sometimes people would leave really good books in there.
Well, I decided to do a search and see if anything had popped up to replace it, and... yes! There are two in town. These are run by individuals, rather than the library itself, so the boxes are smaller and - well, it involves going to a box outside of someone's house, rather than one in the park. But it's so nice that we have something at all.
I went to the one nearest me yesterday. It isn't as close as the now-defunct park box, but it's still near enough to walk to. The box is up on a pole, and it's shaped like a little house - very cute! I picked up a thriller and left some historical fiction in its place. It felt a little weird at first, rummaging around in a box outside of someone's house, but the owners installed it on purpose, knowing they'd get people coming to it, so...!
It's on a street that I don't usually pass through. There were a lot of nice little Halloween displays up already! People getting creative with the pumpkins and whatnot. Low-key and retro style, not so much with the big inflatables. Anyway, it was a really nice walk, and I'm so glad I took the time to look this up.
