Sep. 24th, 2023 09:21 amYesterday, we went to the James Bay Market. Managed to pick up some souvenirs for Tik's family, which was good. (And also some trinkets for me.) It was raining, but it was still nice.
After that, we went to the Royal BC Museum. I hadn't realised that the First Nations exhibits were closed. That was kind of disappointing, but after reading up on the reasons, it's totally understandable why they want to like... redo everything. Anyway, the parts that we did get to see - the visiting Khmer exhibit, also the dinosaurs and whatnot - were very cool in themselves.
(My card got declined at the museum, so I spent the visit being vaguely worried that something was up, but then after that we went to my bank and checked aaand there was nothing, so I think it was just that their machine didn't like me.)
We noodled around a bit, got coffee, had leftovers for supper, and then went to the Royal Theatre to listen to the Victoria Symphony Orchestra give a performance of Star Trek and Star Wars music.
The concert was excellent! A few of the musicians were even in costume, haha. I saw two Starfleet uniforms, a stormtrooper, a jedi, Princess Leia, and something else that neither me nor Tik could identify. Some people in the audience were in costume, too. (I told him, "You don't need to dress up for this, it'll be an informal concert" ha.)
The music was so good. Very, very cool to hear it live. And also there were some special treats - the theme music from Picard, which has never been performed live; the conductor was able to get special permission to play it. And ditto Obi-Wan's theme from Kenobi - never performed live, was played by special permission.
And for the encore, they played the Cantina theme. ;) Really, really fun ending for that. I was so happy. And Tik really enjoyed it, and I'm so glad.
