Reading Wednesday
Sep. 1st, 2021 07:59 pmJust Finished: A Brief History of Earth: Four Billion Years in Eight Chapters by Andrew H. Knoll. What it says on the tin. Gelology and paleo history etc for people who find the whole thing vaguely interesting but don't know where to start. I found it very interesting and approachable, and I learned lots of Neat Earth Facts. Very detailed lists for further reading at the back, too.
Currently Reading: Lovesickness story collection by Junji Ito. This collection has two long works (the titular "Lovesickness", and also "The Strange Hikizuri Siblings"), as well as a few shorter works. The only Junji Ito work I've read previously was Uzumaki, but and this stuff has the same general feel: a combination of creepy, surreal, and kind of absurd. I'll be honest, this guy's art kind of weirds me out - there's something I find viscerally unappealing about it. Yet, at the same time, I'm really drawn to it, because there's something about the art that's absolutely perfect for whatever the hell it is that he's doing. Reading Junji Ito's stuff is a... strange experience. Very glad that the library had this one.
Reading next: I have no idea! Maybe something from my actual shelves rather than the library. I kind of feel like re-reading some Stephen King - not sure which one though.
