Reading Wednesday
Aug. 11th, 2021 09:10 pmFinished reading: Black Butler vol. 01. Morbid curiosity inclined me to pick this one up. I was aware that some people love it, some people hate it, and some people love wanking up a storm about it. Going in, I vaguely knew that it contained pretty art, drama, shota bait, and buckets of gratuitous teaboo nonsense. And it does have all of that. But one thing that I never see mentioned is the amount of tedious and annoying comic relief! There's so much of it! Good lord. I guess it's just - I was expecting something with a much more serious tone. And there is some more serious-toned drama, but I keep getting mood whiplash from all the annoying humour interrupting it. ...Anyway, I think this is something I would have enjoyed at 14, but I don't know if I have the patience for something like this now, even if Sebastian is very, very pretty.
Currently reading: Shadow Ridge by M. E. Browning. A thoroughly competent mystery/thriller page-turner with murders made to look like suicides, with some internet stalking on the side. Not necessarily mind-blowingly brilliant, but I'm having a good time, and that's honestly more than I can say about some of the other mysteries I've read lately. Might check out the author's other work later.
Reading next: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carre. I've been meaning to watch the film for years, but the library recently added the book to their collection, so apparently I'm going to get around to that first.
