Jul. 19th, 2021 07:25 pmRead some Jon/Michael fic today: Like Real People Do by BroImLooking. It's a canon-divergent AU in which Michael still exists in Season 4. Can't 100% rec it because there were some SPAG issues that drove me nuts, but I still liked it a lot.
Just. Like. The whole... thing. Michael seeing the state Jon's in, and deciding to fix it. Bringing him a person to give a statement - and making sure that person is someone who did some very bad things, because eating that kind of person is more palatable than someone who hadn't. I guess it brushes against certain vampire tropes, in a way. Except different, of course.
And the way they made use of the fact that people can be trapped in the Distortion's hallways for weeks or even months without dying... I don't know, I just like the use of that concept here.
Honestly, the whole thing is both creepy and dark, and kind of romantic and cute. Like, Michael's essentially giving Jon some sloppy seconds - or I guess you could say it's feeding him the scrapings from the Distortion's plate. Or you could look at it like someone making a meal and bringing someone else the second portion that they'd originally intended to keep for themselves. "Here, I made something for myself, but I decided to bring you some since you're at work and going through some things and I figured you wouldn't be able to get supper on your own". ...Somewhat.
It's just, I don't know, it's sweet? Michael clearly doesn't have any qualms about where its food comes from, but it understands that Jon does, especially considering Jon's only recently become the Archivist (in the Beholding sense), so clearly it's necessary for Michael to take this little problem into its pointy hands!
And then they just... continue in that way, with Michael making sure to lure in horrible people that Jon wouldn't feel guilty about taking statements from, and Jon accepts this gesture, and over time they grow closer and become more monstrous and fall deeper and deeper into twisty and bizarre and horrible affection.
I'm probably not going to be able to stop thinking about this scenario for a while. Gosh, I love this pairing.
