Reading Wednesday
Jan. 6th, 2021 05:19 pmGoing to drop this one, and then... that'll be enough internet for today.
Just Finished: Redshirts by John Scalzi. A light, fun read. My Star Trek knowledge is limited to season 1 of TNG + Tik posting TOS gifs on her blog, but that was definitely enough to get most of the jokes. :D Probably not going to be checking out the author's other books, since they seem to be more standard scifi, but it does make me think that it'd be worthwhile to seek out more humour and parody works, because I enjoy that kind of thing a lot when it's pulled off well.
Currently Reading: The Hunger by Alma Katsu. The Donner party + supernatural horror. Picked this one up at random, and the writing's all right so far, but I'm not too into it yet - we'll see. I'm kind of lukewarm on the premise, though I'm not sure why - could be that I'm just not really in the mood for this one.
Reading next: I have no idea. Going to have to look through my bookshelves to see what I haven't read yet, and also which books I read so long ago that I can't remember what they're about (there are a lot of those). Though, I was recently doing some fic-related research on 14th-century Norway, and that kind of put my in the mood to re-read Kristin Lavransdatter. I'll probably reconsider that idea once I pick it up, though - that book's rather heavy.
