yuuago: (SSSS - Emil - Reading)
Finished reading: Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey. Delicious and sparkly cheese. Amazing? Nah. But it's pretty much what I expected from a Lackey novel. I'm glad I bought the whole trilogy, because I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of it.

My only disappointment is that Savil isn't in any books outside of the trilogy (at least from what cursory googling tells me). I love her! Especially her relations with her trainees. And also with Andrel and Jaysen. She falls into that "capable older woman" category that I like so much, I guess. Man, I would be happy to read a book entirely about her. Oh, well.

Currently reading: Welcome to Night Vale by Fink & Cranor. I'm about halfway through right now. It's all right! Rather glad that I decided not to bu it, because I don't think this one would be a re-read, but I'm enjoying it. Some people have said that the hype was built up too much - I wasn't exposed to most of that, but I can see how it would be a bit disappointing if one was.

It's a very atmosphere over plot novel, which is basically what I expected. A lot like the podcast itself, though not quite. ...In fact I think that, for a 'Night Vale' book, I would've preferred something like the radio excerpts in the novel; that just aligns better with my tastes. Anyway - it's worth a read overall, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Reading next: Probably Blood Sports by Eden Robinson. IIRC, it's about sketchy people doing sketchy things, and it's set in Vancouver. And I don't remember much else about it.

But I am very poorly today & very stupid & hate everybody & everything. - Charles Darwin

The above is one of my favourite quotes of all time. It is also unfortunately a pretty vivid descriptor of my current state of mind. That feeling is really frustrating and annoying. But, anyway.

From a purely specific perspective, everything is pretty good. Today, I did the following:

☆ Helped a friend with some writing! ...At least, I hope it helped. She asked me for critique, and I am not very good at or experienced with critique, especially for original work, but I did my best. Maybe she'll find some of it insightful. :Va

☆ Spent a few hours watching Shoop stream art, and then watched Jureeya stream too. <3 BUT then my computer started melting, so I had to stop.... Good time while it lasted, though. (Shoop started work on a DELIGHTFUL Onni/Reynir drawing, I really hope she finishes it.)

☆ Did some more knitting, watched some more Dead Zone, and it was all very relaxing. Hooray! I'm going to start on the main body of the scarf/shawl/whatever it is tomorrow, I think, so that'll be interesting. So much shaping... I'm going to be an expert on increases by the time this is over, heh.

☆ Read more of the Night Vale novel while doing a run on the treadmill. Finished it, which means I can start something new tomorrow - that always feels good. Things got really weird in the last 50 pages or so, and I'm still kind of processing everything. And I kind of want to catch up on the podcast. Or maybe start from the beginning? Or both. I guess it depends on whether I decide to do another knitting project after this one is done. ...Also, like I've mentioned before, I really want to write a Night Vale + Eerie, Indiana crossover some day. Well, probably one already exists, it seems a very obvious crossover to me - but I'd like to write my own. But I have no idea what the plot would be.

☆ ...So. Yes. Everything is pretty okay.
