Letters and boxes and packages, oh my!
Jan. 6th, 2015 06:24 pmAll of the mail that I was waiting for last week turned up today. All at the same time. All of it.
But there were some extra special surprises - cards from dear friends! From Pale, and
still_intrepid (with delightful Hetalia stickers!), and Coffee (a card AND a miniature Freia chocolate bar, how wonderful - Norwegian chocolate is so delicious, oh man). AND ALSO a surprise Christmas present from
tinediserp, some special matte topcoat that I've actually been meaning to try for ages, I have no idea how she knew. (Have I mentioned here that I'm crazy about nail polish? No? Well, I'm crazy about nail polish.)
Anyway, as I said, that was entirely unexpected and such a nice thing to come home to... I've had a very long day.
But! The package that was expected, well, that was a large Amazon order. Including the last DVDs I was missing of the Adventures of Tintin. And also the complete Cowboy Bebop, which I'm really looking forward to rewatching! Aaaand... also some books, which does not break my "don't buy any books in 2015" resolution because I bought them before the end of the year! So there. :D
MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood - I've been looking forward to reading this for ages; I enjoyed the rest of the trilogy, even though there are some things I'm not sure about (I'm really going to have to re-read it from the beginning, it's been years since I've read Oryx and Crake and I don't remember it very well). Hopefully it'll be a satisfying end.
Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch - Originally, I hadn't planned on ordering this one, because I was having trouble getting into Red Seas Under Red Skies for some reason. But then I did get into it, and couldn't put it down (until break ended and I had to go back to work, because - well, it's a big fat book and it won't fit in my lunch bag :c ) so I figured I might as well order the next one in the series. Definitely looking forward to this! After I finish Red Seas of course. Lynch takes ages to write, from what I've seen, which is unfortunate... apparently there are about 7 books total that are planned for this series, or something, and I can hardly imagine how long it will take before the entire go is finish.
A Question of Honor: The Kosciuszko Squadron by Olson & Cloud. About the RAF 303 squadron, some seriously badass Polish WWII pilots.
still_intrepid's enthusiasm for these guys got me interested (and also, partly, Sabaton's song "Aces In Exile", about these guys as well as the 304 and 310 - pilots from Czechoslovakia and Canada), and I figured this book would be as good a place to start as any. We'll see how it goes. I'm really really curious about how it will read, but I want to finish some of the other books I have on the go, first.
So, I'm really looking forward to enjoying these. <3 Yay!
