Today was good, and I am exhausted, and I promise there will be a real entry later on, certainly! It was REALLY WARM OUT today and I was out walking in it, ughughugh. +20C is too much for me; I do better at -20C.
Good lord, I am so Canadian. :|
And I didn't do any work on fic today, which makes me feel a little bit guilty. But I feel a little bit better about the fact that as soon as my Sweden book gets to me, I'll have at least one good non-internet reference to use for this union story. Whoo.
I went to McNally Robinson today - that's the independent bookstore in town - and I was really startled to see just how expensive books are compared to ordering off Amazon. One that I'd been looking at online turned out to be double the price in-store. JESUSmaryandjoseph good lord, ugh. I mean, I like supporting local business, right. But fuck me with a rake, I ain't gonna pay $30 when I can get it for half that online. Sooo I ended up leaving with nothing. Partly because things were so expensive, and partly because they didn't have any history books for me. Sigh. As usual, no Baltic or Nordic stuff. So it looks like I'll be sticking to Amazon for that, and used book stores for all my "classic" literature needs. Bummer.
On another note, I bought some salmiakki (salt licorice) today to try it, just out of morbid curiosity. I mean, I'll try anything once, right? And, uh... It's every bit as gross as I've been told. Ick. And it got stuck in my teeth, too. D: ... And yet, I can't stop eating it. What the hell. Ah, well, it's not so bad if you suck on it.
This is kind of like how, I hate beer and wine - nasty stuff, that - and yet I drink it anyway when the opportunity presents itself. :|
