Pysanky redux

Aha! The dye I ordered for my eggs arrived! And plenty of wax too. Excellent. :D

I went with so-called "Trypillian" colour scheme this year (like these). I don't think I'll go with that style of design, but I do like the palette. Last year I used yellow/orange/red/black, so this earthy aesthetic isn't that much of a departure, but still different enough. If I don't like the results this year, I'll just go back first year's palette.

(I do have packets of blue and green somewhere, but I never bothered to use them.)

Hmm, I have eight shells hollowed out... that's more than enough. Mom wants me to do a complete dozen, but no!! Eight is already too many! Especially since she insisted on keeping the batch from last year - I have absolutely no idea why; I had intended these to be disposable crafts. OH WELL.

Last year, I tried to do all of the pysanky in the span of two days... that was kind of too much all at once. It was exhausting. I'm going to try to space it out a bit more this year. Hopefully that will go as planned. ;p

:D Indeed! I love how earthy and kind of, hm, subdued? those colours are.

I like some of the ones in that link a lot, especially the serpent design. But I have a feeling that something so complex is beyond my abilities right now. Need more practice! xD

oh wooowww, those are crazy pretty eggs! But all the pictures on that website are gorgeous. I hope you'll post pictures of yours when you're done! :D Do you have an old-style cone wax dip kistka, or are you using a modern electric one? I hear the electric ones get you way more precision and control for fine details, but the old-style ones are super neat and have their own cool history.

Yeah, I have the old-fashioned kind. When I started with these, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it enough to do more than once, and getting an electric kistka seemed like too much of a commitment. For now, I'll stick with these, even if they're tricky to handle. They aren't that difficult, though working with a steady hand can be challenging. xD

Oh man, I'll bet!

I was looking up the electric ones and apparently the tips can go crazy thin. Makes me wonder how they did all those tiny little drawings and thin little details with only wax... years and years of practice with the same kistka, I guess.
