So, I was reading through that biography I have of Chopin, and I came across mention of one of his pupils, the Norwegian pianist/composer Thomas Tellefsen. I'd never heard of this guy before - perhaps he's more popular in the Nordic countries? - but it was enough to spark a vague something-or-other idea - re: Norway himself being fond of his music, and having some sort of personal interaction with him at some point... one of those "Nations interacting with their people" fics that I enjoy so much.

But I'll have to research him a bit first. ;) Well, that's work for the weekend.

After a brief listen, I must say, his work does appeal to me, though. Or at least this selection does. (Youtube link, 4 nocturnes, 19 minutes length)

I've wanted to do some 19th-century stuff involving Norway and music for ages, but I never did get around to it because the most obvious Norwegian musical figure from that century is... Edvard Grieg, and I really can't stand his work at all. (Maybe I haven't given it a fair try, but the pieces I've heard were not to my taste.) ...And as for research on other figures, well, it was always a "I'll do that later" thing. Heh.

It would be nice to do something like this - centred around artistic endeavours - because while I do like writing the stuff set during wartime where Everything Is Horrible And Depressing, it's also really fun to do works that are not that. Arts/technology things - like that one Sve/Nor fic I wrote that was centred around early photography. Lots of research, just like the other stuff, except it's not sad! xD

Anyway. Maybe after poking around, I'll come up with something that I can hang a short fic on. Maybe something completely gen, I think. I mean - stuff set during the Sweden-Norway union is usually written as Sweden/Norway, to the point where it feels almost like a cliche to pair them up like that (even though I love it). But maybe something where they're not in a personal relationship. Or just... something where it doesn't come up. Well. We'll see.

I also have some vague desire to write Hetalia fic with Chopin in it too, but rather than my faves, obviously the nation for that one would be more appropriately Poland or France. ;) (Or... Poland/France....) (Or... France/Sweden or something, if I really must shove one of my favourites in there for no particular reason. ;p)

If (big if) I do end up writing something music-centric at all, it'll likely be bite-sized. And will take a while. Because I'm not supposed to be working on this sort of thing at the moment! I have a zine submission to finish. xD

Oooh well I very much like all these ideas! Composers interacting with nations is A++. (I’m also specially interested in where composers/artists/others who become sort of national figures have links with more than one country, for various reasons... Chopin is a clear case there - also Dvorak! Maybe even Handel with England and.. I don’t even know what Germany/s that’d be in hetalia canon at that point.).

Also I’m gonna look up that composer, thank you for the link!

Oh, in the nocturnes you lined I definitely hear some Chopin's influence! And they're pretty, thank you for bringing them into my attention!

You can always put Russia into the Chopin fic - and probably, via it, all Partitioning countries - but I think none of them is your fave either? Hm, hm, hmmm... Some story turning around competitors in the Chopin Competition? I'm sure every nation sent someone here at some point - so if the nations would be cheering them up, one can use every combination of them! It would be more connected to Chopin's music than him as a person, though, unless the nations would stand reminiscence...

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to push you, I'm just thinking aloud and stopping right now.

I'm more familiar with the concept behind Hetalia and fandom than Hetalia itself - and when I finally borrowed the manga from my friend and read it, I found it not to my tastes, so I didn't even try the anime. The concept and what fandom does with it, I still find interesting, though - although it's also one of these fandoms I read only in Polish, never ventured into English fandom of it.

Being me, I even have my stemple niche ship/interaction in Hetalia! XD (Polish/&Turkey)
