Brief Terror thought -

SO, uh-
Nearly finished the series now (just one and a half more episodes to go) and... I ended up kind of shipping Crozier/Blanky. Which is surprising. After reading the novel, I was totally on the Crozier/Fitzjames boat, but what we get of Crozier and Blanky's relationship in the TV series is just so good! Especially everything with them halfway through ep 09, that's the good stuff (even if the circumstances are horrible).

Also, this series isn't half as graphic as I was expecting. Or maybe it's just on account of the differences in the novel and the screen version, hmm. A lot of the, um, visceral horror comes through really, really well in the text, probably because your brain fills a lot of things in.

Also-also, the series makes up for a hell of a lot of the novel's shortcomings, and I'm so glad for that. While there were a lot of things I liked about the book, there sure were a lot of things I disliked too, and most of those are eliminated in this version.

One thing that I would have liked would be... more Bridgens/Peglar. Or at least a clearer illustration of the relationship. I've seen people in discussions who didn't realize that they are indeed in a romantic relationship; or at least, it isn't as clear in the series as it is in the novel - in the book version of course, we get their thoughts, so there's no doubt. But it isn't quite as easy to see it in the show.

...Though it doesn't help that it's difficult to tell a lot of the characters apart in this series, haa. I have no trouble identifying Bridgens, because I find he has a memorable face (rather handsome too I would say; I really should look up some other stuff that John Lynch is in, just so I can look at him, heh), but I can usually only identify Peglar by the way Bridgens acts toward him. This series can be kind of challenging if you have trouble figuring out who is who. xD
