Whee, new doujinshi
I received a package of Nordics doujinshi in the mail today, and I'm delighted.
Top right: That one's by Haranonaka and features the Nordics at various historical periods, though a lot of it seems to be focused on vikings/medieval era. Of course, because it's Haranonaka, the art is GORGEOUS. And the pairing moments are very sweet... It's Denmark/Norway and Sweden/Finland, though the focus is mostly on Denmark/Norway I think. The title of this is "Goodbye Beautiful (I)", does this mean there's going to be a second volume?! Oh man, I hope so.
Bottom right: By Kokemani, mainly about Norway and set during the Sweden-Norway union (though not with Sweden/Norway pairing as far as I can tell). Norway meets a man with the same facial features as his own. ... I get the impression that this mysterious painter is supposed to represent a specific historical figure, because the description of the book on the site I bought it from says it contains references to a historical person, and also because there are some references to famous Norwegian art - but I'm reluctant to get any more specific than that at this time, because I'm not sure, due to not being able to read it. (If this particular character looked like the real person I'm thinking of, then I could be sure, but I think this is meant to be taken more metaphorically).
Every so often there is a book that makes me really wish that I knew Japanese. So, the above two are ones like that. :) It's just, they're so good by themselves! But if I could read them, it'd be even better. But it isn't enough to make me want to put in the effort to learn Japanese.... If only they were in Norwegian or French... but of course that would never happen. xD
Anyway, the third (on the left, titled "Freja") is an anthology of Nordic pairings by various artists. Though there isn't much pairing variety - I thought there would be more but mainly the first half is Sweden/Finland (and Finland/Sweden, they separated it) and ditto for the second half being Denmark/Norway and Norway/Denmark. The other pairings are mostly one-off illustrations (but at least there is a really nice Denmark/Sweden illustration by Re-sashi, the same who did the cover art and also one of the comics in the book). Anyway, I'm not interested in the Sweden/Finland stuff so much, but the Denmark/Norway section includes some artists that I like a lot - Norrsken, Kokemani, Re-sashi etc - so for now I think it's worth it, even if it isn't exactly what I was hoping for. In fact it's almost worth it for the Re-sashi comic alone because omfg, their doujinshi are so difficult to get hold of! They almost never appear secondhand. And this comic is nice and long and set during one of the time periods I like (1600s) and has Norway turning into a werewolf and fun stuff like that. :D
Anyway. I need to stop buying doujinshi for a while; I have way too many. One of these days I should sort through them and decide which ones I want to keep and which ones I want to give away...

And same with me regarding Japanese. I like it but I do not think I have enough interest in the language to put in the effort needed to be good at it.

There are visual cues that suggest who it's supposed to be, even in the preview images, but I'm reluctant to name the historical figure since I can't be absolutely certain. :ca
Anyway. Yes, agreed - Japanese is a lovely language, but it would take so much work in order to get good at it! I just don't have the energy to put into learning that. :D

Right now, I'm trying to learn Norwegian. :D Though I'm not putting in as much effort as I should (because of lack of time). And I also want to improve my French, but it's so difficult. D:

I'm putting French on hold although it's more out of lack of interest than the lack of skills in it. I can hold basic conversations and I have 2 French speaking friends but I just don't have as much interest as I do in the Germanic languages.
I'm learning Esperanto to improve my skills in other languages.

Ah yeah, I'm not all that interested in French either, but it's practical for work purposes since I'm in Canada, so I really should try harder with it.
How difficult are you finding Esperanto so far?

I'm also going to translate a couple of things into Esperanto like mori girl information as well as random things.
Ah, I live in the United States so I will have to learn Spanish or maybe languages like Korean or Vietnamese would be useful because there are a lot of Korean speakers in my hometown.
I think Dutch is a funny language or at least I think I can make jokes in Dutch someday. My best friend is a Dutch speakers so I usually try to talk to him sometimes in Dutch but I should try writing to him more in Dutch on skype.
