So uh
I joined another fest.
That brings the total of things that I'm participating in up to three (3). The Nordics Exchange, the Sweden/Finland fest, and now... add the Denmark/Iceland fest to the pile.
I'm possibly going to be regretting this later, but right now I regret nothing.
(It's a nice challenge! And the Den/Ice one has a 200-word minimum! It wouldn't be hard for me to make that limit at all!)
In other news I'm officially halfway through playing Valiant Hearts. And this is TERRIBLE, because I want this game to go on for much longer. I mean, I'm sure it's paced really well and everything, but but but-- I don't want to be finished with it! Then again I suppose when I'm done with it, I can try to 100% all of the achievements and collection-tasks, since it's really easy to do that in this game, but STILL.

But go, yuu :V 3's a lot, but it also looks like a lot of fun.

You never know, there might be one for characters you can write! I have no idea how many Hetalia fests are actually going on right now; I'm only aware of what crosses my dash since I avoid the tags.
Re: /ooc
! NedCan! How come you chose Sweden/Finland over it?
Re: /ooc
Re: NedCan vs SveFin, well... my friend is running the Sweden/Finland fest. So, I decided I might as well join it for that reason. Plus, I've written SveFin before and can force myself through it if I find myself running low on time/energy, but I've never written NedCan, I'm still shaky on Netherlands' characterization, and I haven't written anything with Canada in it in years.
Re: /ooc
I'd love to read your Canada again, now that you reminded me of it :') and I agree on Netherlands, he's so hard to get a hang of.
it may be a fun challenge to write a ship you're not really into, too ;d
Re: /ooc
I feel so ???? about Canada. Like, I love the real country, but when it comes to the character I feel so meh; it's sad. But who knows, I've been reading more history lately, so maybe I'll get some ideas. I actually do keep getting ideas, but they're all vague things that sound cool but would be better as fanart because I don't have plots, just mental images, argh (i.e. RAF + Battle of Britain + Pilot!Canada + Pilot!Poland = ???! I have no idea I just want those fuckers in fighter planes, gdi)
Re: /ooc
Battle of Britain with Poland interacting with someone who isn't England would be amazing! and hey, I read your entry about Van Gogh museum -- I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself! you wrote you'd like to come back to drawing, so maybe fanart isn't such a far-off idea :)
Re: /ooc
Let's be real, if I wrote Battle of Britain stuff with Poland, then Czech and Slo would be in it too. ;D As for me drawing... proooobably not anything as epic as what ideas I get. THat's more like, ideas for me to commission other people. But some fanart is always a possibility - or at very least character designs for Czechia and Slovakia, so that I can finalize what they look like in my head. And I kind of want to do simple fluff stuff for my rarepairs because like, that's the only way fanart is gonna happen unless I pay somebody.
THE VAN GOGH MUSEUM THOUGH. IT WAS AMAZING. Man I wish you could have come with me on this trip, I think you could have loved all of it.
Re: /ooc
"Let's be real, if I wrote Battle of Britain stuff with Poland, then Czech and Slo would be in it too" -- THIS ACTUALLY MADE ME SMILE ahhhh! gosh, how I need those last two to, like, BE. anywhere. and with that setting, and all? noooo (by which I mean: yesssss)
it seems that a lot of people have ideas so epic they're afraid they can't pull them off. (like. me.) so I could write something inspiring, but it's hard since I feel the same orz practice matters! or... commissioning someone is a way, too.
I'd love to see your designs for them. I designed Czechia once and was really happy with it, but then I saw her design made by someone else and that image just sort of stayed with me, and my old design stopped feeling right. I'm very curious about yours.
I wish I could've been there too ;3; for now I'm reading your entries and I'm trying to be content having them, heh. (I'd love to see all those bicycles in Amsterdam!)
Re: /ooc
Anyway. Pff WELL to be honest with a fic/scenario/? like that, it wouldn't be FAIR to have Poland and Canada and not Czech&Slovakia too, even though they don't have canon characters. It wouldn't feel right. At least, not to me. But ahhh I just... want to write something with them (I have fluff ideas). And I want to write fic. And I dunno.
Epic ideas are epic and to be honest, I get afraid that I can't pull them off too. Mostly historical stuff. Partly because I'm worried I will get a major historical thing wrong. But also because research is exhausting, because sometimes it's so hard to find the information that I need in English... But I have ideas I really want to write, like the Russia/Norway Pomor Trade thing I want to do, but. Like. [/flop]
Maybe I'll try drawing Czech&Slo sometime soon... I've seen a bunch of different fan-designs for them but eh, most of them aren't quite in line with what I was thinking of. Though I do worry that it would be a case of like - well, I don't know as much about these places as I'd like, so I'm worried about getting something majorly wrong, but all things considered I guess I can't do any worse/weirder/not in line with stereotypes than could be expected of typical Himuraya. If you know what I mean? So Maybe I'll go ahead and do it. Part of me kind of regrets stating in that fic that Czech has blonde hair, though; maybe it should be darker. I remember that one fanart that someone did of her and Prussia and she was SO BEAUTIFUL and well, damn. But I wanted her to have similar physical features to Poland, so I'll stick with that. (And ditto for Slovakia, actually, except that with him it shows more in the face - things like the shape of his eyebrows and eyes, that kind of thing)
Re: trip, maybe I'll put up some pictures when I'm feeling less lazy '3'
Re: /ooc
Fluff with Czechia and Slovakia sounds awesome '3' (anything with them sounds awesome, but fluff is, like, awesome times two). It'd kind of pose a problem to me, tbh, because while I have a very clear image of Czechia in my head, when it comes to Slovakia it's kind of... well, there is something there, but it's so blurred. Both when it comes to his design and personality, actually.
Ay, Himaruya's making a cute series about Nero now, so yep, you definitely can't get any weirder. Even if you tried, I think. And without even saying anything about the things he wrote in the past, ahah.
I think the one design that stuck with me was by a Czech artist actually, and their Czechia had a hat :T idk, it was very cute.
I can't remember where you wrote about her having blonde hair - like, when it was present-time or the past, bc if it was about the present, well, I was wondering why there's so little of character dying their hair! I think someone wrote a headcanon about Monaco doing it a lot - dying her hair, that is - and I like the idea, and actually I think Czechia would be into it too. Maybe she wouldn't do it as often as Monaco, since I like to think Monaco changes her hair colour quite a lot, but I definitely see Czechia as the kind of person who'd like it too.
So, my point is, if you wrote about her having blonde hair in present times, you can easily explain it off with that (if you like this idea too). And if not... well, headcanons change :d I like her with darker hair, too. Originally it was brown hair to me (kind of like Liet's), but now I'm wondering if even darker wouldn't be more fun.
Coming back to epic ideas and getting history wrong; I worry about it too, even when I don't write anything epic and even when I'm only writing about nations from "my neighborhood" (so theoretically it should be easier!) on the other hand if it's something there's not much sources for in English, I don't think it's a major mistake '3' (though I get it, every mistake feels like a major one)
Don't worry about the pictures (but, I'll be on the lookout :D)
Re: /ooc
... Yeah you're right, I couldn't get any weirder than Himaruya. Ever. I just. [/gestures to mochis] [/and alpaca comics] [????]
Anyway. Yeah, in that historical fic I wrote, Czech had blond hair - like I mentioned, I wanted close family resemblance to Poland. BUT then again, who says I need to adhere to my previous headcanon, really. ;p But. !! You're right, dyed blond hair in modern day is a good idea. A while back I was doing a search in order to get ideas for character designs, and all the ladies had blonde hair, but thinking back on it, it was definitely dyed fff.
Writing history though... It's just, if I got something wrong, I would be so embarrassed. orz. Though I guess it should be more forgivable if there aren't detailed sources that I can read... You say that theoretically it should be easier for you, since you're writing characters in your neighbourhood, but I don't think that's necessarily so. You might have more detailed (better?) sources available to you, but there's also additional pressure to get it right, I think. Because it's stuff that you should already know about. Or something. '3'
