OH SHIT Solstice is on Sunday. Completely forgot. Crap goddamnit.
Yeah, I dunno', hadn't really planned on doing anything. But now I figure, well, first Solstice in my own place (unfortunately not the winter, but beggars can't be choosers) so I think I should do something. Spend the day down by the river to just chill, then come back and burn some incense and drink some booze or something. Something.

Mm, something good happened today. Someone told me they don't think my roleplaying sucks~ And I convinced a certain person to be my Icy. Excellent.

Yes. Yes, that is an Iceland flag cake. Or at least, it's supposed to be an Iceland flag cake. I couldn't get the colours dark enough, and it's not off-centre enough to be a Nordic cross, but gods damnit, I made a noble effort, I think. This was my first time working with more than one colour of icing, and I'm actually surprised it turned out so well.
And, if you were wondering, it is delicious.
Argh, I was supposed to make a thread at the anonmeme today (technically yesterday) but I forgot. Will have to do that later today, I guess. Clearly. Mm, and I have various other things I need to catch up on, but... dunno when... ah.
Well. Whatever. Happy National Day, Iceland. ... And now, to bed.

Hetalia's been making me look stuff up and before that I had no idea about the existence of the Great Northern War or the fact that we owned a chunk of Estonia and Latvia. I'm gonna raid the library and get my hands on history books later this week so I can expand my headcanon moar.

Anyway. Addressing the various things--
To be honest, that... particular version of Denmark makes me go "wtf", if you know what I mean. But since I'm friends with the player, it's very low-pressure interaction, so I try my best not to be too creeped out. xD He's just crack anyway, so~
Now that I'm thinking of it (just going to babble a while) I do like Den/Nor a lot, but I like it best when I can control everything. So clearly I need to write more of it. Since Denmark has a personality that I think would drive Norway crazy, I love to play with that. It can go either way: thinking he's an ass and wanting nothing to do with him, or thinking he's an ass and putting up with him anyway. I'll probably be sneaking in some of it in the big long fic I'm working on.
(Argh, now that I'm thinking of it, I need to get on doing more research for that fic... everything I know about Norway is propped up by some half-assed Wiki-fu. I need to read moar damnit)
And I don't mind the spam, though I must admit I was pretty startled when I woke up and found I had somethin' like 18 e-mails in my inbox xD)

And this, again, is true - that engaging with him can be difficult, I mean. I don't have too much trouble with it, partly because I'm generally talking with the player on AIM while we are tagging so I have a general idea of the direction we should go, but it's still difficult. I think because of interacting with this particular Denmark, my Norway comes off as being a bit more bitchy than I would normally write him, heh.
(As a sidenote, I've seen you RPing before, and I think you're fine. Though I certainly agree that crack can be difficult. I'm not used to it and sometimes I feel like I'm being too serious...)

Ah, by that I mean - well, when writing it myself, of course I have control over how the actions will go, and how the characters (especially Denmark, in this case) will be portrayed. That's not something that can happen in RP, of course. Though now that I think of it, if I wasn't RPing with a crack character, I probably wouldn't have this issue. ;p
Don't get too excited about the fic, now! I keep babbling on about it, because I'm excited, but it's going to take forever, gahhhh. I just hope the anon I'm writing it for will enjoy it.
(Research - oh gods, I haven't even tried touching folklore yet. If I go down that road, I'll get completely sucked in, and never come out again! I love reading that stuff so much. ARGH why is the world so big and why is there so much to know about it? I'll never learn everything about everything and it makes me sad *sob*)

Oh, the meme. Well. It's kind of a complicated issue. There are two parts.
Firstly, largely because of the strip about them (I think), interest in the Nordics has exploded, and many people have been talking about them Very Very Much lately. That makes sense. But there are many people on the meme who aren't interested in the Nordics, and they're getting sick of hearing about them. And... well, you know how people on the meme can get when they're annoyed about something.
Secondly, there are often conversations in the anonmeme AIM chat about Nordics, because many of the people who go in there (including myself) like them and happen to write/draw/roleplay them. So, we do talk about them a lot. Again, this annoys people who don't want to talk about that - and then they exaggerate, saying it's all we talk about, even though it most certainly is not, and there is a whole bit of drama relating to that.
So, in summary: Some people are annoyed because there is a lot of Nordic-talk on the meme, combined with ridiculous chat drama = what you have observed.
