I have a lot of feelings

Argh, there's this one post floating around about how Valiant Hearts would make a good movie. And in theory, I agree with the person who said that! It would make an awesome film! But I also feel petty as hell because some of the specifics of this person's idea of what it should be like feel so wrong to me!

Fancasting Idris Elba and Kenneth Branagh as Freddie and Emile? Really?

Those two playing these guys?

I mean, I'm happy to oggle watch Idris Elba in almost anything, but he's so wrong for Freddie, man. I just don't feel he looks right for that particular part. And Emile... I can't look at Kenneth Branagh without thinking of Gilderoy Lockhart and, just, no. I wouldn't be able to take it seriously, and that would be tragic.

Also, Charlie Hunnam as Karl, really? Visuals aside, he's way too old for the part - Karl is only 23 in 1914, man. Give me a break.

(He also looks totally wrong, too. Eesh.)

Not to mention, all of that person's fancasts were of actors from Great Britain & Northern Ireland, and here I am thinking "...The entire film should be in French." Or, rather, it should be done in the same manner as the film Joyeux Noel - the characters are all speaking their relevant languages, and subtitles are applied when necessary. So, it'd be mostly French (both French-French and Belgian-French), with some German, and a smattering of English in certain bits.

Unfortunately, I can't really think of who my ideal fancasts for everyone would be, since I don't watch much film from the relevant areas. Hmm. :|a (Perhaps something I should change some time~)

Ahhh speaking of Joyeux Noel, I love that film so much - I should rewatch it this winter and see if I can get any ideas - there's still part of me that wants to cross VH over with it somehow.

Unsure who would best direct this hypothetical film - but please not Christopher Nolan, thank you. Come to think of it, "Valiant Hearts as directed by Christian Carion, in the same sort of way that he did Joyeux Noel" would basically be my ideal.

....EXCEPT MAYBE CHANGE THE ENDING OF VH BECAUSE MY HEART IS ALREADY BROKEN AND I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE WATCHING THAT IN LIVE-ACTION ---

Well, okay, the terribly sad end is part of the point, because it relates to all the awful stuff relating to the Nivelle Offensive (and, by extension, the war as a whole). If you were aiming for a different (happier) ending you could smoothly change the end by placing Emile somewhere other than Chemin des Dames/not involving him in the second battle of the Aisne at all/etc, but it would potentially require a lot of reworking, and possibly sacrifice some of the point of the story. And I'm fine with handwaving canon-divergence when it comes to fanfiction, but for film, hmmmm.....

The only thing I do completely agree with is that in this hypothetical movie, Walt would need to be in it. Yes indeed. No getting rid of the dog, thanks! Adorable med-doggy is a Requirement.

...Speaking of Walt, a film based on the Dogs of War comic would actually be pretty neat, too. And it would include Hans! Which would be wonderful because I love him. Except the ending of that story is also tragic. GODDAMNIT, VALIANT HEARTS, WHY DO YOU COMPLETELY DESTROY ME -

(It's a WWI story, Yuu, of course it's going to be sad -- SHHH LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU)

Anyway. Apparently I have a lot of feelings about this game (still). And... a lot of feelings about fancasts. xD Oh dear.

Why on earth have I never written fic for this fandom?! Considering I love it so much. It's a mystery. I don't even have the excuse that it's a canon with a historical setting, considering canon itself is a little bit loose sometimes, and occasionally downright cracktastic when it comes to things like tech details.
