I threw together a spreadsheet of the requests for A Redtail's Dream & Stand Still Stay Silent for this year's Chocolate Box. It's easier to sort through requests when you pull them out like this.

Also included VME in a separate tab, because why not.

I really wish Ao3 had a more efficient format for exchange request lists; sure, you can sort by fandom in the existing one, but when you have to page through a ton of stuff, well... it's not the greatest.

Brrrr, it's cold! -22C this morning... Getting that smack in the face when you're walking to work sure is a way to wake up. But, enough of that.

☆ Fandom Battle! This is an event in Russian fandom over at diary.ru; the SSSS Team has posted information in English about participation in the Winter edition - I of course can't participate directly via writing (alas) because all submissions have to be in Russian, but I can offer permission for others to do fic translation! So hopefully some people on the SSSS team will have a go at my work. :D It would be so exciting if that happened - this is an event that I've always kind of lurked on the corners of, never really able to join because of the language barrier.

☆ Since I'm on the subject, I'd like to remind everyone that anyone is permitted to translate any of my fanfiction at any time, as long as I'm informed of it. :D (And of course I'll want the link to it, so I can include a link to the translation in my author notes!) ...Anyway.

☆ There is a Kickstarter for the first chapter of Tistow; just under two weeks left, and fully-funded. I'm so glad that there will be a print version of this - Elli's art is so gorgeous, and I want to have it on my bookshelf. <3 Only question is, should I order an extra copy to give away? HMM... I can't decide.

☆ How about that Yuletide, eh? ;V Man, I hope you all who are participating are having an easier time than I am... I don't have much written yet, though it's mostly because I haven't really had the necessary peace and quiet for it. And also, admittedly, because my recip has too many good ideas, and it's hard to make a decision about which to write. (I have a lot of half-baked plot notes. So many.) I'm sure that when I finally sit down and work on it, it'll go great. Usually I end up drafting my Yuletide fic in one or two sessions, and I expect this year it will be the same.

☆ Oh man, the cold and dark is making me so lethargic... I end up wanting to go to bed at 8PM. Brrr. (Maybe I should do that, and end up well-rested for once, instead of only getting 5.5 hours of sleep...)
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Kantele)
Haven't had the energy to properly go through the ToT collection yet, but since author reveals were today, I figured I might as well drop the recs for my lovely gifts, and de-anon the things I wrote!

My gifts

☆ [aRTD x SSSS] "Journaling the Apocalypse, or whatever" by Kiraly. Tuomi-centric, set during SSSS's year 0, journal format. 0+, 1.5k. Her voice for Tuomi is perfect. <3

☆ [aRTD x SSSS] "A Haven for this Heart" by Elleth. Joona/Hannu, set during SSSS's year 0. 0+, 1.4k. I love the way she writes this pairing, and she included my love for radio communication, ahhhh <3 <3

☆ [SSSS] "We Interrupt this Broadcast" by MadameFolie. Aksel, Berit, & Sigrun L; 0+, 215 words. Bite-sized canon-typical creepy radio happenings.

☆ [Small Trolls] "First Magic" by Lunarium. Jáhko & Veeti, 0+, ~400 words, delightful bite-sized cuteness with a hint of magic. <3

What I wrote

☆ [aRTD] "Let the Strings Sing" for TereziMakara. Tuomi & Little Hare. 0+, 1k. Tuomi searches for a song that he heard in his dreams, and tries to do something that should, by rights, be impossible. Ao3 | DW

☆ [aRTD] "The Song of Tuomi, the Hare, and the Fox" for TereziMakara. Tuomi, Little Hare, & Puppy-fox. 0+, 36 lines poetry. And then a fox came along and said, "Hey kid, I have an idea for you...." Ao3 | DW

☆ [SSSS] "Sailing Back". Ása Harðardóttir for Unlos. 0+, 100 words. Ása has had quite enough. A little rest will be good for her. Ao3 | DW

☆ [SSSS] "At dusk". Aksel Eide & Sigrun Larsen for IdleLeaves. 10+, 600 words. An encounter during the early days. Ao3 | DW

☆ [SSSS] "Full Circle" for ArgylePirateWD. Sigrun/Tuuri. 10+, 600 words, canon-divergent. They made it back safe and sound, and now.... Ao3 | DW

yuuago: (Folklore - Marzanna - Close)
☆ [Life] UGH, IT'S SNOWING. It's snowed every day for the last three days or so. This is terrible. Damnit, Marzanna, couldn't you put off murdering your husband for a couple more weeks? (He had it coming, though.)

☆ [YiH] So, the Year in Hereafter giveaway is happening. Details here, basically the same as all my other giveaways: contact me privately, I'll add you to my spreadsheet, winner will be drawn in two weeks (Oct 26). ...I wonder if I should drop this in the Discord or something, that platform has a PM system, doesn't it? (Will have to see about this)

☆ [SSSS] Hey look, my mate Scout drew some new art of Lalli, and it's gorgeous, as usual. (Worth a look even if you don't follow the series, I'd say; it's really pretty.)

☆ [Books] No ~Reading Wednesday~ this week, since I'm still on It, but I should have that done by the end of the week. It's good! I like it! Yay, Stephen King. Yay, horror. <3 Hmm, now, looking through my reading goals, I've met everything except... "Read 10 books that you already own". Oh. WELL. (Nearly done, I just need to finish four, but pfff). WELL. Uh. I... guess I should tackle some of those that I bought on vacation, shouldn't I... (But library books are so SHINY. Well, I can do both.)

☆ [Movies] 'tis the season for horror. Forgot to mention - at the beginning of October, I watched Ravenous, and that was quite a good one. Creepy, fun, pretty gorey, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Very recommended if you like wendigos and "group of people trapped in a remote area; something horrible happens" narratives! ...Avoid it if you're squicked by cannibalism, though.
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Best friends)
Well, Thanksgiving happened. The less said about that, the better. Upside: the wine was excellent. ...I hope those of you on my Flist who were celebrating it had a tolerable weekend. <3

My Trick or Treat exchange assignment is done. I was kind of floundering for a while there, having trouble coming up with ideas, but today I sat down and pulled something out aaaand I think the recip will like it, so we're good. I'm glad I won't have to worry about it any more.

Fic reveals for Darkest Night happened a few days ago, and all of the SSSS stories written for it were excellent. I suggest taking a look if you're in that fandom and like darkfic - there's a nice variety in darkfic types there. (And please comment if you enjoy them, I'm sure the authors will appreciate it. <3 )

I've written over 4k in the past two days alone... This is highly unusual for me. Upside: yay, productivity! Downside: ...I think I'm stressed and trying to find an outlet. Oops.

It snowed this morning. Melted an hour later, but still, yeesh. Just a liiiiittle premature, don't you think, Winter? Cool your jets a little, thanks.
yuuago: (SSSS - Purrito - Twirl)
WELL. STAND STILL STAY SILENT SURE IS EXCITING LATELY.

More about that )
yuuago: (Norway - Tea)
Today had a rough start; I woke up feeling hungover, with a pounding headache, even though I hadn't been drinking at all, and was nearly late for work because of it. Eesh. If I'm going to feel like that, I want to have had a wild night to go with it, you know?

But! There were some nice things today, at least.

+ I managed to survive the day without murdering anyone. I also did not die. (This is important.)

+ I saw an ADORABLE PUPPY when I was walking home from work, and I got to PET IT. Tiny black lab. Sweet and fuzzy. It looked like a plush toy. xD Didn't think to get pictures, but I think the people who were walking it live near my street, so hopefully the opportunity will arise.

+ Fic rec: Noon Raid by Minutia_R, a lovely fanpoem posted today. *_* Worldbuily SSSS goodness! Even if you aren't familiar with Stand Still Stay Silent, I think this one can be appreciated as "rebuilding society during/after the apocalypse" fiction, since it deals with original characters outside of the comic's setting. And ahhh it's so good... I love this kind of thing in this fandom.

+ I'm editing a story that I've been ignoring in the wip folder for a while, and it turns out that it doesn't need half as much rewriting as I thought. *_* It is soooo nice to not be signed up for any exchanges... I hadn't realized just how much I needed a break until now. Though a part of me does want to sign up for [community profile] femslashex... But I will refrain. xD I should just write down all of the things that I would request/offer, and then write them myself. Brilliant plan.
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Hannu)
So, fics for [community profile] raremaleslashex were revealed today. I received three (!), which is amazing in itself. But not only that, they're all really amazing. I'm so lucky. <3

I haven't had much time to read everything yet, so for now, I'm just going to rec my gifts here. More might come in another entry later, maybe. (Unless I decide to dump the other recs on twitter, perhaps.)

A Redtail's Dream
*Both of these are Joona/Hannu, and both of them are SSSS Year 0 crossovers. :D

Harbors. 0+, 1.7k; Ville is there too.
It was only by the soft light of the rising moon that Hannu even saw the figure sitting on the porch outside the cabin, holding a crossbow on his knee as he waited for them.
Reccer's notes: Great atmosphere; just the right amount of comfort + apocalyptic grimness.

Surely Some Revelation. 13+, 4.2k.
The Rash Illness has come to Hokanniemi. A contingency plan of Hannu's leads to some unexpected revelations.
Reccer's notes: Lots of nice worldbuildy bits to chew on; builds up the rest of the village in addition to the main couple really well.

Year in Hereafter
*This one is Jaako/Veeti. Both author and I are aware that the scenes will get hella jossed when the rest of chapter 05 drops but la la la I don't miiiind. xD

In Need For Company. 0+, 1.7k
Jaakko struggles with extending a helping hand to the newcomer at Rautiola. In the end, he's glad he did.
Reccer's notes: I asked for hair-washing. I received hair-washing and it is glorious and lovely and everything I could have wished for. xD And I really like the way the author wrote Jaako (I find him really difficult, so I appreciate that they managed so well with him.)
yuuago: (SSSS - Signe)
So, fics for Multifandom Drabble Exchange were revealed today. I really, really enjoyed this exchange - there's just something about bite-sized fic that I find really fun.

I suggest checking out the main collection and treat collection if you haven't already. So many fandoms listed! *_* A little bit of something for everyone, I think.

I'm not finished reading everything I'm familiar with, so for now I'm only going to rec my gifts.

7 recs under the cut - SSSS & YiH )

Aaand anyway, here's the 5 fics I wrote, for completeness's sake. (All crossposted to [personal profile] roesslyng, of course.)
aRTD + YiH )
yuuago: (SSSS - Purrito - Twirl)
[personal profile] straightforwardly asked for some SSSS recs, and I kind of got carried away. Whups.

I'd like to stress that there are a lot of really good fics that aren't on this list. I mostly just went through my gifts + my bookmarks. Also, I haven't been reading recently, so it's 100% likely that awesome stuff was posted after, ehhh, January or so, and I just didn't see it. I also included some of my own stuff if it fit the requirements, though only what I have posted on Ao3 (as opposed to over at [personal profile] roesslyng, which is... twice the amount).

I tried to list stuff that contained at least one of the following, as requested:
-Prologue stuff
-Main cast gen and/or neat worldbuildy stuff
-Emil/Lalli romance

Prologue and Post-Prologue era )
Year 90 cast era )
Emil/Lalli Shipfic )
yuuago: (YiH - Sakari - Fresh air)
Wow, has work ever been stressful lately. Pardon if I seem a bit distant. (Or snappish, at times - I know I shouldn't, sorry.)

Anyway, just going to jot down a few things, cut into bits for convenience.

Stand Still Stay Silent )
Year in Hereafter )
Tistow )
Camp NaNo )

☆ Aaaand now, a music rec, since I was listening to CKUA today, and when I do that it's inevitable I'll stumble across something I like: "The Update" by Martin Kerr. Well, actually, I wanted to recommend "Better than Brand-New", which is the song I heard, and also the title of the album this song is on, but unfortunately I can't find it on youtube. Anyway, this guy is from Alberta (Edmonton, specifically) and I really like the sound of his voice. <3 "Mr. Liao" is another one that the radio played today, and it's lovely, though quite a sad narrative in this one. I think I'll have to look into his music some more; it has a certain something that's very much to my tastes.
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Be with you)
☆ I'm looking forward to Camp NaNo. Who else is planning to do it? I realized today that I have just over 14k to go before I hit my year's goal of 50k, and while I don't think I can manage to write that much in a month, I'm going to try.

☆ Found out that I might have the house to myself on Canada Day weekend... I'm crossing my fingers in hope that everything will turn out. It would be nice to just dogsit by myself and not do anything much. I tend to feel a little melancholy on that day, so the less time spent around people, the better.

☆ It was sooo sunny today. Maybe even a little bit too much. I'm melting. x_x I'm glad that it's so bright, but then again, little bit excessive....

☆ Have discovered that I like having breakfast outside in the mornings. Sure, I need to put on bug spray first, otherwise the mosquitoes will totally eat me, but after that... it's fine. Maybe I'll start doing this on weekends. It's nice to have the peace and quiet.

☆ I get so much joy out of seeing people get excited about their OCs in SSSS fandom... I can't put my finger on why, but it just makes me so happy. Not to mention, of course, that when people actually sit down and write these things, it opens up so many worldbuilding possibilities. Fun! (Also, I guess, seeing such enthusiasm in others makes me feel like less of a weirdo.)
yuuago: (YiH - Mika - Comfortably share silence)
✿ Solstice has been rain, rain, nothing but rain and gloominess. That's all right; we need rain, always. And I've had to move ritual to the weekend, as usual, because of scheduling. Maybe the weather will be better for it, then. (Forecast says yes.) Anyway, bless you all, etc etc etc.

✿ (Note to self: solstice reading x2. Do it. You know you want to. :D )

✿ Works are finally revealed for Night on Fic Mountain exchange! Yay! My own gift is super cute, I love it. You should all look through the list of fandoms to see if there's anything relevant to your interests. It'll probably be a while before I can get around to reading everything that catches my eye, alas. Not a lot of time on my hands right now....

✿ Speaking of exchanges, signups for [community profile] multifandomdrabble are still open until the 23rd! Come write some bite-sized fic with me. :D

✿ SSSS: we have a hint (toward the bottom of the blog entry) that more information about the Book 2 kickstarter is coming soon. Very exciting! I wish she'd give a more definite date about when we'll get more info, but ah, well. I wonder what kinds of extras will be included in the book this time....

✿ Speaking of SSSS, the recent events are basically "everything is terrible and sad", ffff. Not a lot of Deep Thoughts on the current part of the story, but it sure is difficult to write things "five minutes into the plot's future" so to speak, because I'm having trouble speculating. I wonder when we'll get the new chapter turnover, and also, when we'll get that barrage of pages that was mentioned a few weeks ago.

✿ YiH: Karo posted another preview panel for Ch06, yay! Here's Siiri again. <3 <3 Haha, I think I'm falling in love, oh dear. (I just... really like older women? The sort who have a tough streak. I dunno, man.) Anyway, Karo also says: I'm trying to get Chapter 6 at least 25% done before I continue uploading and finishing Chapter 5. This makes me really happy, because yesssss steady updates. Sure, it means waiting a little longer, but it's going to be so worth the wait!

✿ Aaand... Jáhko and Veeti are getting a cameo in the Odie comic, and the preview of that panel delights me. Voila. They look like they're on a date -- [/cough] I MEAN - well, yes, my shipping goggles are permanently welded to my eyeballs, but whatever, it makes me happy. As much as I normally dislike modern mundane AUs, I might or might not have dropped about 800 words on something inspired by this, and fully intend to finish it. I guess for every rule, there is an exception. xD It's a nice opportunity to draw on the "soulmates across universes" trope, which also isn't necessarily my thing, but for these two, it's just perfect.
yuuago: (YiH - Mika - Joy)
Aaaaah, so! Nice things that happened today:

✿ Laufey received the package I sent! And the Icelandic post didn't do anything questionable to it. Hooray! (We've had some difficulty with mail going between Canada and Iceland, so - it has made me a little cautious about sending things other than cards/letters.)

✿ I came home to a parcel full of handmade marshmallows, courtesy of my mate Tesla. What a delight. Some day I'll learn to make them on my own (maybe) but until then... it's always nice when you can trade weird Canadian potato chip flavours in exchange for somebody else making candy for you.

✿ My lavender plant is Not Dead Yet. More specifically, lavender plants. There are four (4!!!) seedlings, and they seem to be growing well! Though, I... think one of them might not be lavender, actually. It looks quite different from the other three. I have no idea what it is. Hopefully it'll survive and grow long enough for me to transfer it to its own container, and then (maybe) find out its identity.

✿ Today's SSSS update is awesome. We finally get to see Ensi Hotakainen get some page time, aaaahh! With dialogue and everything! She seems exactly the way I'd imagined she would be. What a wonderful stern old witch. <3

So. Yes. Today was good, even if I'm utterly exhausted because of the pressure at work due to shutdown season.

I was going to write this evening. Something to go with the Vesa/Suvi ficlet I wrote last night*. I got to thinking about Suvi's reference to those poor sods stuck on night duty when it's so horribly cold, and it seems like a perfect opportunity to do something from Niko's point of view. Yessss, time to make him uncomfortable, excellent. I need to become more accustomed to writing him, anyway; his voice is still tricky for me, and I really want to nail it down before I write anything serious or difficult (and I do have some ideas of that sort).

...Buuuut, that will have to wait for tomorrow, because writing Did Not Happen tonight, as I went for a walk instead. It was a bit cold out, and threatening to rain, but still tolerable. And that's fine. I think I needed it. So, tomorrow. I've already met my Camp NaNo goal, so tomorrow I'll smash it! (Maybe.)
yuuago: (YiH - Mika - Comfortably share silence)
I ended up finally caving and setting up a Patreon account so that I could follow all of the Small Trolls/Tistow/Year in Hereafter material. /shakesfist It's mostly the extra Small Trolls sketches that I'm interested in at this point. Happily for me, there are certainly a lot of those. I'm simultaneously delighted and overwhelmed - can hardly wait to have time to go through all of it this weekend.

But mannn, ahh I wish there were already more of this comic. Magically. Somehow. Because then I could come up with fic ideas so much more easily. It's hard at this particular point in time. This kind of thing makes me wish I actually enjoyed drawing; maybe if I did, I could do that instead. Alas! (...Maybe I should just scribble down doodles of Veeti all over my sketchbook pages until I get bored. His hair looks so fun to draw.)

Speaking of webcomics, I'm starting to actually get a bit interested in the SSSS updates again. My attention was kind of wandering for a while there. The showdown with the ghosts should have interested me, but it just left me cold, and I'm not sure why (maybe a re-read will illuminate things). Now that they're on the road again, I'm at least looking forward to what comes next. I really hope that they'll figure out a way to track down the Pastor within a reasonable amount of time - I want to see her again (I liked her) and it will hopefully resolve this ghost-train issue. Not to mention that the very act of resolving it, if successful, could bring up some worldbuilding things that I'm interested in - such as questions like, how do you lead souls to rest when they can't remember who they are? And so on.

...Aaanyway. It was super warm yesterday. I went for my first evening walk of the season, and it was so, so pleasant. I'm going to have to keep doing it, and as much as possible, because the fresh air is just so good for me. Spring might be kind of gross in a lot of ways - it's both muddy and dusty at the same time, and there's garbage everywhere because it accumulates over the winter and the pickers haven't been out to remove it yet - but ahh, sunlight! During the evening, finally! And no mosquitoes!

✿ Noms for the [community profile] nightonficmountain close on April 1st, so if you're thinking about signing up for that one and haven't added anything to the tag set, there's still a bit of time. (NOFM is a multifandom exchange centred on rare/small fandoms, for the record. ...I'm going to request so much obscure stuff, hot damn.)

✿ Camp NaNo starts tomorrow. I'm VERY excited about it. As to whether I'll actually make my wordcount goal... that is questionable. Going to have to get into the habit of writing every day - again. This will be hard. ;V

✿ Random music rec: Í Tokuni by Eivør, a singer from the Faeroe Islands. I stumbled across her music recently, and ahhh she has a pretty cool voice. <3 Her sound is very... I'm not sure what to call it. Ethereal, I suppose one could say. There is also an English version of this song, Into the Mist, which will be released on the English version of her album Slør in late May (the Faroese version was released in 2015). I think I prefer her work in Faroese, and if I end up picking up one of her albums it'll probably be the original version of Slør, though she of course sounds great in English too.

✿ Tumblr user drepedetihjel drew fanart inspired by one of my SSSS poems about Ensi and Veeti (Second Sight) and I can't get over how cool this is. <3 <3 <3 (Note to self, link it in the actual fic post later.)
yuuago: (Norway - Map)
☆ Starting to feel better, FINALLY. I'm still coughing a lot, but by this point it's like, mostly a reflexive thing. Urghhwarblglarbl.

☆ I gave up on the Curiosity scarf that I had in-progress, and unravelled it, and started over. This one SHOULD be possible to do in one skein of Arroyo, but I wasn't managing it. I jumped down two sizes below the recommended needles and... it looks like now I'm able to work the recommended gauge. Lovely. xD Ahhh I'm still not used to actually paying attention to gauge... but if I want to do this scarf properly (without running out) then I guess I'm going to have to.

☆ Speaking of which, in a fit of craziness I ordered more Malabrigo Arroyo in the same dark blue, and I think I'll try making this hat to go with it. I like the bit in the description that says you can spend a lot of it just comfort knitting - that sounds reassuringly relaxing. :) Soooo hopefully when I start that one (whenever it'll be) that will go well.

☆ Kiraly drew an adorable Jonna/Riikka picture for me, which is posted over here. I can hardly wait for her to mail me the original, eee. <3 I realized today that I've only written two stories with them, which is a travesty and I must remedy this ASAP. xD

☆ A random fic rec: As Long As You Like by Kiraly. Author's summary is: A week after their first encounter on the ferry, Michael and Signe meet again. Some things have changed. Some things haven't. Goooo read it, it's a lovely fic with this pair - very true to character, and basically the continuation of their story to a part that I wish we'd been able to see. ...Yes, I'm only just now getting around to reading stuff from Chocolate Box. ;p
*I think that it's possible to enjoy this one even if you aren't familiar with Stand Still Stay Silent - all you need to know is that there was an illness spreading rapidly through Europe (and the rest of the world), and that these two met on a ferry that was bound for Bornholm, and they weren't able to return to the mainland because Denmark closed its borders.

☆ Noms start March 15th for [community profile] nightonficmountain if anyone's interested. Schedule is here. This is a small/rare/inactive fandoms exchange - always nice to see those. Unsure if I'll sign up for this one, but I'll be keeping my eye out for people to potentially treat.
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Be with you)
Nice little things: Date cookies, peppermint tea, and days that look cold outside but are actually surprisingly tolerable.

Considering where to go for my vacation this year. Last year, I'd been thinking about Seattle, because one of my friends lives there, and it'd be nice to visit. But, uh, any trips to the USA are on hold until further notice, for obvious reasons. So, now I don't know. Victoria again? Halifax, maybe? I miss Nova Scotia an absolutely ridiculous amount, but it's such a hideously long flight. :V We'll see. It'll have to be somewhere in Canada, at any rate.

I had thought I wouldn't be able to make my writing goal for the month, but thanks to [personal profile] idleleaves and Synchronised Screaming, I managed to break through it. Feels good! Speaking of which, Synchronised Screaming is a weekly flashfic-a-thon type thing for some fandoms that a bunch of us are into - currently it's SSSS, aRTD, and YOI. Details over here.

I ended up writing two Hannu/Anssi fics for that, which isn't a pairing I would have ever thought of, but somebody prompted it and I was interested. That, combined with the Joona/Anssi prompts that someone put up for PBAM, make me feel like aRTD fandom is telling me to write some Anssi fic. xD Which is fine with me. Poor guy, his sister Riikka gets so much fic written about her, and he has... hardly anything. Well, we'll see what happens. And maybe I'll get some ideas for gen plots, who knows. That would be nice. Right now the only possibility I can think of is some vague slice-of-life stuff. And I suppose there's always the SSSS apocalypse crossover too, but eh.

Oh, I just remembered - for those of you who use [community profile] ssss, I've posted an idea on the discussion post re: opening up a new disco post. So, please let me know if you have any thoughts on that.
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Silence)
Because most of today was craptastic, so I should jot down some things that weren't -

☆ I listened to last year's Eurovision music all through today, and I'm starting to get kind of pumped for the next one, even though it's still quite a few months away. <3 It's something to look forward to, at least. A lot of the 2016 songs have grown on me a TON... there are still some that I'm not crazy about, but a lot of them, I really love them now. <3 And some remind me of my OCs... which means inspiration for self-indulgent stories, yes. 8) Ahhh I hope some day I'll be able to go to a Eurovision again... going to it with friends last year was really fun, even considering all the troubles going on back home with the wildfire.

☆ After finally figuring out the trading system in Pokemon Sun, I've managed to get a few Moon-exclusives that I didn't have access to, as well as some others that were giving me trouble (female Salandit, and Spinarak for some reason). Even though it's such a small thing, I'm so amazed that it's possible to trade with nothing but a wireless connection. The only Pokemon game I'd ever played, until I finally caved and got a 3DS when X came out, was our old Pokemon Yellow, which my brother and I had to share as kids. Naturally I didn't have any friends who played it, so of course anything that you had to trade for was completely out of reach. I love living in the future, oh my god.

☆ The SSSS page for today is fucking hilarious. Reynir petting the owl as if it's a dog? Of course he would. And then the twist. 8) Kiraly said it's like something out of a fanfic, and she's 100% right. Oh my gods. This page is a gift. That panel with poor Onni-owl's !!! face is also a gift.

☆ Chocolate Box fics were revealed today, so I can mention the YOI Leo/Guang Hong story that I wrote, City of Love. Recip liked it, and it was received very well generally, so I'm happy. <3 And my other recip liked the SSSS stories I wrote for her - some Sigrun/Tuuri fluff and a Reynir/Lalli poem, so I think that overall it was a good experience for me, even though I wrote a lot less for it this year than I did last year.

☆ I went driving at night for the first time ever. I did not crash into anything. And visibility was better than I expected. I'm still not ready to drive on any major roads in the dark, but it's a start. We've found a good place to practice left turns, which is good because that's one of the major things that I need to focus on.

☆ Fresh pineapple for dessert is delicious, and it's even better when you don't have to cut it up yourself.

☆ Spent almost the entire day at the library yesterday. Sweet. Good times. It's so cozy in there. Anyway, I picked up Thomas King's The Back of the Turtle, which I've been meaning read for a while. Also found a book on the cultural history of Chinese cuisine, and that looks pretty interesting - hopefully it'll actually be as cool as it looks. Ooh, and they had Paprika, which is a film I've heard good things about but haven't seen yet - probably going to watch that one tonight. Anyway, books were obtained and writing was done. Life is good.

☆ What the heck, I had no idea Bastille released another album this past September... man, I really need to get better at keeping up with bands I like. Haven't been able to go through all of the tracks from Wild World yet, but man, I do like Fake It, it's pretty good. <3

☆ I have three stories that're all drafted out by hand, and I need to type them up, and I really don't want to. Arrrgh! This is one of the worst parts of writing, well, anything. I write best when it's by hand (with a few exceptions) but then there's the whole trouble of... getting it onto the computer. OH WELL, looks like I'll be going to the library again today, in that case. :F For the curious, the fics are my chocobox assignment, and an 18+ aRTD fic (Jonna/Hannu), and a SSSS fic with my OCs from the Kajaani settlement (Vesa/Suvi <3).

☆ SSSS: I've been thinking again about that SSSS fic that I wanted to set in my area - specifically in Fort Chipewyan - and I keep feeling overwhelmed. In some ways the situation in northern Alberta would be a lot different from the canon's Nordic setting, and I keep getting varied ideas about how to account for that. But it's a lot of stuff that I find hard to articulate; partly caught up in how the geography is somewhat similar, but the population distribution is very different, and how would that affect life 90 years after the apocalypse etc. And the technology available in post-Rash Denendeh would be much different from what we see in Finland, I'm sure.... ALSO I keep tripping over things like what to call Beasts and Trolls - an obvious parallel for Trolls would be Wihtikiw, but that is not a Dene legend. There is apparently a Dene concept that is sorrrrt of similar, Wechuge, but it isn't really the same thing. I'll probably try reading a little bit more before I settle on the fussy issue of vocabulary - I mean, it would make sense to go with the Dene word, but the problem is that I haven't tripped over it in any reliable sources for that yet. So... to the library, then. :V Again. (Oh no, how terrible, how will I survive, haha <3 )

☆ YOI: There is a White Day Exchange; I just heard about it today. Minimum for fic is 700, which is doable (I had to ask the mod on twitter about it - the minimum wasn't written in the profile/faq - hopefully they fix that). Today is the last day of nominations, so I threw in a few pairs... I'm waffling on whether to sign up for it, but at least I have a week or so to decide. Could be fun! Or, eh, maybe I'll just treat. Who knows!

☆ YOI rec: A Hundred Flowers in Bloom by Chiharu. Leo/Guang Hong, M, 9k. Summary: The 2022 Beijing Olympics open on the fourth day of Chinese New Years with twelve lines of lion dancers forming into a dragon. This year, Guanghong only has three resolutions: to not drop the flag on international television, to win Olympic gold for China, and to fall out of love with Leo. | YOU GUYS, oh my god. I love this fic so much. It's lovingly-crafted, you can really tell that the author put a lot of heart into it, both into the story as a story and also into giving everything the right "feel". I just - pining, and skating a program about unrequited love, and then the ending...! So lovely. There's only one thing I'm not crazy about, and it's Phichit's characterization - but I can't put my finger on why, exactly. That's such a small thing, though, and it doesn't distract from how awesome the rest of the story is.
