Harrow the Ninth

Finished Harrow the Ninth. Holy shit!

+ HAH, my theory of "the second person parts are actually more complicated than that" confirmed!

+ I am so glad we got some Gideon again, I adore her. <3 <3 I MISSED THIS LOVEABLE MEATHEAD.

+ When Harrow encountered Cam I went WAT and then when she found Palamedes I went WAT again and then when we discovered what was up with the Canaan house group I went WAT again... honestly this book is one load of delicious WAT from start to finish.

+ Speaking of all the separate threads that Harrow's brain tried to throw up to make sense of things. A lot of them were interesting, and like... I like the idea of AU fics with those as a base. Especially the one where Harrow is determined to be a cavalier?!

+ re: Ortus's (one-sided) rivalry with Protesilaus. Harrow's commentary about how she's glad he has a hobby = [/WHEEZE]. But also, aww.

+ The soul of Matthias Nonius being summoned to protect the Reverend Daughter through should-be-impossible sheer force of passion was some incredible drama, and everything to do with All That left me feeling overwhelmed and I had to have a lie-down for a bit.

+ I still enjoy Ortus very much.

+ Also Abigail and Magnus and Dulcie and... well... all of them....

+ Speaking of Dulcie, I wish Gideon had been able to meet the real Dulcinea; I think they would've got along. ("I'm horny for revenge," oh boy.)

+ Everything about Gideon's parentage made me go WAT.

+ Well, at least we know what the dead eggs are all about now.

+ Still, wtf. There sure were a lot of things happening in that ending, eh.

AUGHHHH I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL ALECTO THE NINTH COMES OUT, I WANT TO READ IT NOW! /shakesfist

Soooo, uh... anybody have any fic recs? Either canon-compliant or "using the loose threads as a base for canon-inspired AU" stuff.

Omg the dad jokes though. The dad jokes!!

It was a wild, wild ride and I can't wait to go again. I've just restarted. I loved, loved, loved getting to see all the characters we didn't get to know in GtN. And Ortus! Ortus, what a damn hero, I love him. And his brotherly relationship with Harrow, that was lovely too.

AAAAAAH the coffee shop au. literal coffee shop.

Recs-wise, I've only dabbled as of this week, but I liked these:

Black Like Your Heart, extension of the coffee shop AU

Your Necro Questions Answered - Gideon runs an advice column

High But Very Drear, Aiglamene and Crux deal with the new Ninth House citizens sent by the Emperor.

I haven't read it, but people seem to rec this one a lot, it's a Moby Dick AU but it's a wip:

I just started Gideon the Ninth yesterday and I love the voice! It's been awhile since I enjoyed a book so much right off the bat.
I didn't read this post to avoid spoilers but knowing that the second book is called Harrow the Ninth is already making me excited :D
