So, fics for Multifandom Drabble Exchange were revealed today. I really, really enjoyed this exchange - there's just something about bite-sized fic that I find really fun.

I suggest checking out the main collection and treat collection if you haven't already. So many fandoms listed! *_* A little bit of something for everyone, I think.

I'm not finished reading everything I'm familiar with, so for now I'm only going to rec my gifts.

7 recs under the cut - SSSS & YiH )

Aaand anyway, here's the 5 fics I wrote, for completeness's sake. (All crossposted to [personal profile] roesslyng, of course.)
aRTD + YiH )
yuuago: (SSSS - Purrito - Twirl)
[personal profile] straightforwardly asked for some SSSS recs, and I kind of got carried away. Whups.

I'd like to stress that there are a lot of really good fics that aren't on this list. I mostly just went through my gifts + my bookmarks. Also, I haven't been reading recently, so it's 100% likely that awesome stuff was posted after, ehhh, January or so, and I just didn't see it. I also included some of my own stuff if it fit the requirements, though only what I have posted on Ao3 (as opposed to over at [personal profile] roesslyng, which is... twice the amount).

I tried to list stuff that contained at least one of the following, as requested:
-Prologue stuff
-Main cast gen and/or neat worldbuildy stuff
-Emil/Lalli romance

Prologue and Post-Prologue era )
Year 90 cast era )
Emil/Lalli Shipfic )
yuuago: (SSSS - Signe)
I posted 79 (!) individual works over at [personal profile] roesslyng over the course of 2016. This is a higher number of fics than I've ever finished in one year. The total wordcount was over 100k, which is also more than I've written in any given year. This year has been great, output-wise.

Final count: Stand Still Stay Silent (35), A Redtail's Dream (22), Hetalia (9), Yuri on Ice (4), Frozen (3), Original Work (3), Mad Max (1), Song of Achilles (1), and Rose of Versailles (1).

List under cut )

Trick or Treat Exchange author reveals were today! Hooray! So, now we know who wrote everything. I'm going to list what was written for me first, and then a few other recs, and you guys should take a look at all of them if you know the fandoms, because they're awesome.

My gifts:

* the tin man, in search of a heart by theladyscribe. Fandom: Ex Machina. Character: Ava. Unrated, ~750 words, gen, warning for body horror. Summary: The problem with a robot heart, Ava finds, is that eventually it stops beating.

* Fresh Bread for Breakfast by Kiraly. Fandom: A Redtail's Dream. Characters: Jouko Kuikka & the twins (mini versions!). G-rated gen, ~730 words, very precanon. Illustrated!! Summary: Jouko might not be a perfect man or a perfect father. But he gives his children what he can.

* Red by Idleleaves. Fandom: Stand Still Stay Silent. Characters: Emil & Lalli. G-rated gen, ~430 words. Summary: Lalli comes back from an excursion spattered in blood. Fortunately, it isn't his own.

* Last the Night by Elleth. Fandom: Stand Still Say Silent. Characters: Sigrun & Lalli. T-rated gen, ~950 words, canon-typical with some H/C. Summary: Lalli and Sigrun shelter in a certain church.

* Mikkel's Undocumented Account by Scribe of Mirrormere. Fandom: Stand Still Stay Silent. Characters: Mikkel, Sigrun, & Lalli. T-rated gen, ~700 words, canon-typical action & violence & magic. Summary: Sometimes Mikkel has a hard time not believing in magic.

Other recs

* Hetalia: ghosts of the past, or, how to be a haunted house by qichi. Character: Belarus & a ghost. T-rated gen, ~850 words. Summary: Belarus has taken it upon herself to help a village butcher out with his hometown's little spirit problem. But when it comes down to it, she wonders, is it actually a problem?
+If you like Hetalia, PLEASE read this fic, it's really great - one of the best APH fics I've read in a good while.

* A Redtail's Dream: Hokanniemi: Year 0 by qichi. Characters: Hannu & Paju. Gen, 1.4k, SSSS crossover. Summary: Hannu thinks it's just ridiculous, everyone talking like it's the end of the world or something.

* Stand Still Stay Silent: Another Vacation by Kiraly. Characters: Sigrun, Mikkel, Emil, Tuuri, Lalli, and Reynir. G-rated gen, 1.3k, post-canon/pre-another-expedition. Summary: A year after the first foray into the Silent World, a second expedition has been approved. Time for the crew to meet up at the Øresund base to head out for another adventure.
+There were 27 SSSS fics written for ToTEx, and I'd like to rec all of them! There's a little something for everyone. But the above is my favourite of the ones that weren't written for me.

* Pokemon GO: Maybe the real treasure is the ghosts we busted along the way by Masu_Trout. Characters/Pairing: Blanche/Candela/Spark. G-rated, 1.7k, very canon-typical & funny & delightful. Summary: Some days you wake up with a kitchen full of adorable pokémon. Others, you realize your bedroom is being haunted by ghosts.

* Black Sails: Firebrand and Siren by motetus. Characters: Anne Bonny & a mermaid. T-rated gen, no wordcount - THIS IS ART. I don't even know this canon, but seriously, go look at it, this illustration is gorgeous!

I posted 48 individual works during 2015, which is more than I've written in quite a long time. This is partly due to having new fandoms, I think. ;) Though I've been posting to Ao3 more, there is still a ton of stuff that was never really posted outside of my writing journal ([personal profile] roesslyng), so if you follow my stuff, it might be worthwhile to poke around there.

Final count: Stand Still Stay Silent (17), A Redtail's Dream (09), Hetalia (17), Ex Machina (05), Kittens Game (01), Legend of Zelda (01), Original work (02)

So, I discovered that a script for Ex Machina exists online.

I didn't read the entire thing, but I was searching through it for Kyoko's scenes. A lot of it is pretty much the same, but there are some parts that vary a lot between the final film and the script.

-At one point, Nathan distinctly mentions that he stripped out her higher functions. ... I'm really glad that was left out of the film. I mean, she is a lot more, uh, stoic than Ava is, but I'd rather handwave that as being a Kyoko-thing, rather than a "deliberately programmed that way" thing.

-Also, in the scene with Kyoko and Ava, when they're whispering to each other: CLOSE UP to
KYOKO’S lips, we hear a hiss of static, with soft pulses of noise buried inside.
I kind of wish that had been left in. Even if it isn't words, it's something that Ava might have been able to understand... I like the idea of that.

Also, I rewatched that scene today, and holy shit, I ship them so hard. So, so hard. That scene is just intense. .... I want to make a million photosets of it.

[edit] Speaking of Ex Machina, the Trick or Treat authors are revealed, so I might as well link to the fic I wrote. ;p Have some Ava & Kyoko postcanon fix-it. Ao3 or my DW archive.
yuuago: (Poland - Totally)
Sometimes, I look at my old stories and go, "This isn't half as good as I originally thought it was". But it's easy to feel that way when you're the one who wrote it, and it's six years after I put it together.

Someone translated one of my old Lithuania/Poland fics into Vietnamese. It was "Vernal Equinox". You can read it here: Original | Translation

It feels kind of strange looking back on it, because I don't write that way any more, and I'm not very into that pairing any more, and - well, everything about it is completely different from the stuff I write now. But, people are still enjoying it, and that makes me so, so, so happy.

Lately I've been feeling a little bit blah about writing - nothing's been coming out the way that I want it to. Maybe this is the push that I needed. :)
yuuago: (Moomin - Snufkin)
Weeks-late Yuletide rec list, ahoy! Though I suppose it isn't so bad to be a little late, since it means that I can add the author names, and that I could take my time with reading everything.

Fandoms in the list, in the order that I read them: Молодежка/Junior League, Hamlet, Road to El Dorado, V for Vendetta, The Darjeeling Limited, Wir sind die Nacht, A Little Princess, Paranorman, The Razor's Edge, Marathon, World War Z, Fallen London

Format is: Title + Author + Fandom + Characters + Summary + Rating + Length. I think the summary is sufficient for most of these, so I won't leave my own notes - suffice to say, if I'm reccing something here, I liked it a lot and I want people to read it. There are a few that are for things I haven't actually played/watched (the ones for Marathon, Fallen London, and Молодежка/Junior League) but I enjoyed those even so.

In fact, the Молодежка/Junior League story ("Save and Protect") is my favourite out of the Yuletide fics that I read this year, so I'm going to put it above the cut. If you enjoy hockey and/or "personal journey" type sports narratives, it's definitely worth reading - especially since it works very well as a self-contained short story.

01. Save and Protect by ionthesparrow. Молодежка/Junior League. Sergey Makeev. "You make the blades for hockey skates by forging steel, tempering it to the critical point but not beyond, and sharpening the thing with obsessive perfection to a razor’s edge. You make hockey players the same way." T, 5.2K

So, I finished and posted 33 Hetalia fics of varying length in 2014. The tag for this year's stuff at my fic journal ([personal profile] roesslyng) is here. It's a large number, but most of them are short; I wrote a lot more short things in this year than in the previous, mostly because I participated in a lot of flash-fanfiction challenges.

The fic I'm most happy with this year is Vltava, about the siege of Prague in 1648. It came out exactly the way that I wanted it to.

Complete list is under the cut. Keeping it simple: Title/Pairing/Rating/Length/Summary.

yuuago: (Germany - Reading)
So, my first fic for Nordipalooza is done. It's some PWP DenSve that reads like a kink meme fill. I could probably do better, but honestly? I don't care. xD (LJ or DW)

Will work on the other thing I'm writing for it... tomorrow. Part of me wants to give up, since I've already met the fest requirements, but eh. Might as well try anyway.

Eurovision is tomorrow! I'm very excited!! I've been waiting all week for this!!! It requires copious amounts of exclamation points!!!! Haha, really though, I have been looking forward to it all week. It's frustrating that I couldn't watch the semifinals, but at least there is the final. I haven't heard most of the songs yet either. Well, I looked up Norway's, since everyone on my twitterfeed was saying that it's a spectacular snoozer. And... it is. It really, really is. As far as Eurovision goes. But as a song in and of itself? I love it! It's so pretty!

... Also looked up Austria's, since I was confused about all the bathtub jokes. Now I get it. I like that one too, heh.

Anyway. It's still really cold, and I'm not happy. It hasn't gotten very far above 10C (or even 5C) and it's been snowing off and on all week. This isn't normal for my location at this time of year, and I'm starting to get very concerned.

Finished reading Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander this week. I love it! It's precisely the kind of book I was expecting it to be. Seafaring and adventure and whatnot. I just wish I'd become aware of the series earlier... there's so much in it that appeals to me. And honestly, I wish I could write that kind of thing. Well - I guess what I have to do is start with the research, and the rest will follow. Like anything else. In the meantime, there are a bunch of other books in the series to read, so I'll be at it a while. I've ordered the second novel and I look forward to it.
yuuago: (NorIce - Brothers)
So, I finally finished that Nor/Ice fest fic that I've been agonizing over for... uh... over a month actually.

I FEEL SO LIBERATED. FINALLY. IT'S DONE. And I thought it was going to suck, but it actually isn't too bad, so I'm going to call this a win.

Now I can go back to working on other stuff. Should be interesting. I don't know if I want to continue what I was working on before, or start something new. Well, I'll think about it. (... I should probably finish some of the stuff I have on the go, first. Or at least poke at it.)

Today wasn't the best in a variety of little annoying ways but somehow, managing to do this juuuust before midnight makes everything else okay.

Anyway. The Hetalia kink meme moved over to Dreamwidth today. There'll probably be some growing pains but I think everything will go fine. Indexes, well... Uh. Hmm. I'm not even going to think about that right now. Thinking about it gives me a headache, heh. I'll tackle that tomorrow, maybe. Or maybe I'll wait until the request period is closed first before I start anything.

In other news it is now past midnight and I am not tired, goddamnit. :'|
yuuago: (Netherlands - Oh?)
Having access troubles with LJ today. And Twitter, too, which is a little strange. Thought it related to the Firefox update, but Safari isn't loading anything either. For now I'm going to pin it down on a bad connection and try later, but it sure is annoying.

Finally managed to finish that Battle of the Sound fic for the fest; it's been posted in the fest comm here and on DW here.

Speaking of DW, the Archive that I put together there is now unlocked. I decided to unlock everything to kind've celebrate finally finishing a real, actual fic this year. It feels kind of weird to have everything unlocked like that, but there we are.

I had originally planned to take a little break from writing after finishing that story, buuuuut I think not. Maybe I'll just write something completely different. 8) A friend of mine gave me an idea for a cute Netherlands and Japan fic, and I've been wanting to work on it for a while, but didn't have time. Maybe I'll get around to that today. Starting it, anyway. I feel a lot more confident about writing Netherlands after that fest fic; still have no idea how to do Japan, though.

Feeling a little bit nervous about the fest - even with the deadline longer than it was last year, not many people have posted - but it's probably just because they're waiting until the weekend to do it.

Anyway, indexing will be done when LJ is working properly for me again. Maybe tomorrow? Dunno'.
yuuago: (BlackJack - Coffee)
I've mentioned previously - I have been archiving my writing on Dreamwidth in order to have everything in one place. Now I'm finally finished! It's right here.

It's access-locked, so in order to view it, you need to subscribe using either a Dreamwidth account or an OpenID account (if you have Livejournal, then you already have OpenID.)

Most of the stories there were posted publicly, but I've included things in the archive that I have not de-anoned, as well as about 40 ficlets that were never posted publicly.

I'm not going to stop posting my writing to the kink meme and my personal journal; it's just nice to have an additional place to put everything together.

Pairing list is under the cut in case anyone is curious )
yuuago: (Norway - Cold)
Since I somehow got an idea for this pairing, I decided to write it, because I know several people who like it. Haven't written this kind of thing in a long time, so it was pleasantly challenging. Hope everyone enjoys!

Title: No Need For Reality
Pairing: Belarus/Norway (Or more accurately Belarus -> Norway)
Rating: 18+ for sex (sexual fantasies, masturbation, male-on-female oral)
Length: ~3300 words
Summary: While thinking of the last time she visited Norway to discuss magic, Belarus becomes aware that she has certain needs - which do not actually require his presence in order to be satisfied.

Today sucked a basket of dicks.

Whine )

On the upside, my Nordic Romance entry is finished! The marathon ficcing was worth it.

I'm looking forward to Friday. Day off. Plan on cleaning the house and writing fic. Best way to spend the weekend, let me tell you. I have a new story I want to start, but I feel that I should finish something else first. Well, that Norway/Germany story is nearly drafted, from what I remember. It's possible that I'll be able to finish the draft this weekend. (The revisions, on the other hand... that will take a lot longer. How the fuck does one write Germany?)
yuuago: (NorIce - Rest)
I keep meaning to write about the concert, but I have been go go going since the moment I got back home, and I just haven't had time. I'm so goddamn busy, ugh.

Trip down was uneventful, and then when we got there, it was all RUSH RUSH RUSH interspersed with... waiting around for hours (I.E. getting to the arena waaaayyy ahead of time so that we could get our t-shirts and grab a spot near the door before things got crowded). But oh man, it was worth it.

The Iron Maiden concert was absolutely amazing. Seriously, it's one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. I hadn't looked up ahead of time what Iron Maiden concerts tend to be like, so everything was completely new and unexpected and - well, maybe this sounds cheesy - but it felt almost magical. Seriously, it was awesome. I screamed and sang until I was hoarse, heh. And when Bruce jumped up on stage dressed in uniform and carrying the Union Jack at the intro to The Trooper? Amazing. Completely flipped my shit.

And they played all my favourite songs, except for "Wicker Man" and "Flight of Icarus" - but there's only so much time and hey, Icarus is one of their less popular ones, so all is forgiven.

Anyway. Finally managed to get the first fic for the Nordic Romance out of the way. Some Sweden/Norway with communication fail and such, here. But as I read it over (and as someone pointed out) the text is a bit clunky in parts, so I'll fix that when the other story is done. I just haven't had time to polish everything properly.

Story number two is... coming along. Slowly. Nowhere near fast enough. Fortunately, I have Friday off, and then Monday off as well (provincial holiday!) so with luck, I'll be able to get everything done and posted. [/crosses fingers] Argh, I keep feeling like I should have worked harder, or something. But it's too late to do anything about that now.

Oh gods, this took me ages to write, and I'm exhausted. And I didn't even say anything. I really should go to bed, ah. ;3; Work has been tiring me out so much!
yuuago: (DenNor - Be with you)
Started writing this over a year ago. Didn't finish editing it until a recent spell of having no internet for a few days.

Title: Negotiations
Pairing: Denmark/Norway/Sweden (Denmark/Norway and Norway/Sweden simultaneously, if you want to get technical)
Rating: 18+ for sex (threesome; DP specifically)
Length: ~7000 words
Summary: Denmark and Sweden make plans for Norway the night before May 17th... and then carry them out.
Many thanks to Bice and Anonymous for encouragement. ☆ As always, I'm happy to discuss things!

Negotiations )
yuuago: (NorIce - Rest)
So, it looks like I need to start looking for a new job again.

I should've seen it coming, I guess. The entire planning department has received layoffs, so it looks like I was the next cut. I'm not upset exactly; more like just angry. I want to yell and kick things, heh. Goddamn, it seems like I can't hold down a job for more than three months at a time. The fact that it's never my fault that I get cut doesn't make it any better, either.

Lately I've been thinking about reading the Hunger Games trilogy, just because I've been hearing people talking about it everywhere. But I've heard that they're really quick reads so I'll probably just see if they have them at the used bookstore or something. I'm not about to pay full price for something that I can read in a couple of days.

I've been kind of quiet on LJ lately because between work and the Nordipalooza fest I just plain don't have much energy to do anything or talk to anybody.

Speaking of Nordipalooza, I've put up one fic for it (with Denmark and Iceland) here. I'm poking away at a second, even though my quota is filled. Don't know if I'll be able to finish it in time, but I'm hopeful. It involves France and Norway and that's all I'm going to say about it. ;p

Argh, I wish I just had time to read everything that's been submitted so far! I feel so bad about not being able to comment right away. Well, I'll do it when the fest's over.
yuuago: (Norway - Gloves)
Title: Chance Meeting
Pairing: France -> Norway
Rating: 13+ for France being himself
Length: ~1000 words
Summary: Norway unexpectedly encounters France while having coffee in a hotel cafe. He is less than pleased about this.
Written for Nate, because he made me like these two.
